my boyfriend got confirmation this evening that he has an std.

I was thinking of travelling up in the morning to "charter medical group" in smithfield. Has anyone any experience of these?
Its just that they seem to offer a walk in service and I would like to get tested immediately.

Are there any other clinics around the country that I could go to tomorrow or Wednesday?
I live in the midlands so can travel anywhere.

    Thanks for any suggestions

    Hi,

This is my first time posting on boards but was looking into this recently.
I think the one in Smithfield has a charge of €120 (but I could be wrong); sorry but I have never been to one and have the same queries as you.

There are the public options which are free but need to be booked e.g.:

    St. James's Hospital, Dublin 8
    Free Service
The Department of Genitourinary Medicine and Infectious Diseases (GUIDE) Clinic
    Tel: (01) 4162315 / 4162316
    Appointments / Emergency Walk-in Service

Mater Misericordiae Hospital , Eccles St. , Dublin 7
    Tel: (01) 830 1122
    Free Service
    Monday - Thursday (STI Clinic) - 2.00pm - 4.00pm
    Thursday (HIV Testing) - 10.30am - 12.30pm
Tuesday (Follow up medical monitoring for patients with chronic infectious diseases, including HIV) - 9.30am - 1.

    Good luck.

Not strictly true, both of these clinics also offer a walk-in service - however, you'd be deveoting an entire day at least to being seen as you have to be there first thing to get a number to be seen in the afternoon.

I presume that wouldn't be the case with the Smithfield Clinic, and I'd imagine you'd get your results back faster if you went there as well.

St James would be the first place I'd think of off hand - as mentioned above.

Give all 3 a call and see.

You may have an option if you have a local family planning (I know there are 2 in DUblin anyway), I believe they do STI screning also.

There is already a thread which lists most places, a quick search showed it to me:

You may find somewhere closer to yourself there.

I think you may need a chat with your other half also. Have you been together long?

They are the group which are offering the discount cervical cancer vaccine program, they have a well kitted out, well staffed modern clinic and from what I have heard are lovely. If they can give you an appointment for a time that suits you rather then having to be hanging around all day at one of the guide clinics then go for it tbh.

But do they do STI screening? (which is what the OP is looking for).

Yes, they do... they had an ad out in one of the freesheets about it last week. That's why the OP is wondering if anyone's been and had one there... at least that's how I read it.

    Hi, OP back,

You are on the ball thaedydal, went into them today,
it is a walk in service and was quiet at the time I was there so was seen straight away.

The place is spotless and the staff are just sooo professional and lovely at the same time.
I have had blood taken for various things over the years and today was the easiest, the nurse was just brill at it. Doctor took a swab. I can't highlight enough how easy and comfortable they made the process. Yes there was some very direct questions - but you have got to expect that going for an std test.

Thanks Thaedydal, shellyboo and everyone for all the help during what is a tough time. Just got to wait the ten days or so now for the results and hope for the best (I don't have any symptoms and nothing showed up on the physical exam so here is hoping. - I don't know if that counts for anything - if someone you have slept with (unprotected) has an STD is very likely that you have it too?)

Depends on the std to be honest. Lice, you will almost definitely get. HIV, you'd be less likely to catch from just a few exposures. Clamadyia, is fairly easy to catch too I believe.

What STD was he confirmed as having? Do you always have unprotected vaginal or anal sex?

dny123456 the op does not need to repond to such questions.

Its anonymous, what does it matter? No shame in it anyway (in my eyes at least)

The op has seen a medical professional and you have no call to be asking them such personal questions.
