Well judging by the image quality I get from my previous generation Panasonic Plasma, the answer is almost undoubtedly yes!

The image quality with HD source material is stunning. With standard definition satellite channels it excellent. With analogue terrestrial TV it is fine, but nothing special.

Thanks Cnocbui, yeah have been reading the looooooong thread over at AV and 95% seem very happy. As you said the small gripe seems to be SD quality. I seen one lad from here asking about an Mpeg4 tuner but no answer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,985 ✭✭✭big_moe

the irish models have an mpeg4 tuner, the uk models dont. the irish models have an L at the end, the uk model have a B at the end. (TX-P50G10L or TX-P50G10B)

the SD on this is as good as ever with panasonic. Pioneer have better SD processing than panasonic but the TVs are more expensive.

you can get an external Pioneer processor to process the SD signals and then feed that into the panasonic tv.

Had the pleasure of seeing seen a KDL40Z beside the TXP46.

The 600HZ effect gives a noticeably better image than the Sony 200Hz possessor.

Thanks for that info Big Moe, was onto John RS and he was telling me they only had the UK model so no VHF/Mpeg4. He did recommend this one LG-42Lf7700 which has the Freesat/mpeg4. Akasol good to hear it;)

Cubix why not an Irish store?

(The new Panasonic tv's also support AVCHD via SD memory card as well as the de-funked Boxer chipset)

nah i dont want to see your receipt, i was just trying to clarify which model you have.

i was just curious as the price you got is the price for the S10; the G10 is around 200 quid more expensive

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 618 ✭✭✭johnnyc

No its the g10 that i got that price for

Cheers lads, worth looking at DID as they are doing it for €1162.45 at the moment with free nation wide delivery and 5yr warranty. Did not check if this is parts and labour

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,013 ✭✭✭yayamark

Seamus Watters in crossmaglen does the 50'B for €1300 approx free delivery

The g10 for that price isnt too bad at all. At todays conversion it would be over 1070€ delivered from RicherSounds so its actually cheaper down South!

Only catch is that a UK model would have that Freesat tuner! They may not have an mpeg4 DTT tuner though!

i wont place the receipt up but if you have a few copies of prices most harvey normans will match or beat the price . Just haggle with then and go to the store, thats my advice to you.

i'd be interested to see if anybody else can get that price in harveys. i think they may have made an error with that price for you johnnyc!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 618 ✭✭✭johnnyc

I watched a football match in HD on it in D.I.D and let's just say I nearly soiled myself lol.
It truely is the most amazing screen I've seen in my life..I think it looks way better than then the OLED's they had on display too..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,520 ✭✭✭Tea 1000

Harvey Norman's aren't stocking the G10's yet, so I've been told by them. What store did you get it in? Fantastic price. Did they do the 5 year warranty?
@ Muppetkiller - OLED's haven't been invented yet! You mean the LED backlit ones? I agree, Plasma is still better.

I actually meant for the mass market. There are prototypes, but now that Sony seem to have pulled out of the OLED race that'll stay a prototype. We're 2 years away at the earliest from OLED on the shelves, so that's why I was just informing Muppetkiller that he probably saw LED backlit LCD's rather than OLED.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,985 ✭✭✭✭duploelabs

OLED screens are out in the asian markets (albeit v v pricey) and will be out in europe by q4 of this year.

What price should I expect for a 46" version of the panny? Probably Irish, as I'm not to bothered about the freesat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,420 ✭✭✭Invincible

The 46" G10 is advertised for €1424.95 with DID electrical or you can get it for €1250,with Freesat on board, from Saemus Watters(0870522885),he's a Panasonic agent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,340 ✭✭✭Cmar-Ireland

Am I right in saying that the DTT is not going to be of any use if I already use Sky?
Would the UK version be better to go for then and save €150 - €200 ?

Ah wont say which harvey norman, shouldn't make a difference, call to the store and ask about the tv instead of phoning... Yes i received a 5 year warranty as well. Chuffed with myself :) . Have a question about the tv i am receiving a logo about play time, how do you remove it from the tv.

this sounds crazy. harveys dont offer the Panasonic warranty because they charge for their own extended warranty. Panasonic themselves are offering this free 5 year warranty, the customer sends away a claim form (to Panasonic UK) and they get their 5 year warranty cert. Harveys dont offer this service because they charge a few hundred quid for their own warranty package.

the price you claim to have got that 42G10 is really cheap, and the fact that you say they gave you a 5 year as well?! it doesnt sound like harvey normans at all to me...

Theres no point doubting me, i am telling the truth.. when you purchase the tv you get a 12mth one and for an extra 100 euro you get an extra 48 mths added on ( I was wrong i though that warranty was panasonic my mistake). I know the price is cheap for that tv. I aint lying are telling a fib big moe.

I got a 50 inch G10 from Seamus Watters in Crossmaglen for €1350. Brilliant to deal with and very knowledgeable...! So far so good with the TV... amazing quality with SKY HD and SD aint too shabby either...!

    Rats

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,340 ✭✭✭Cmar-Ireland

So if I have Sky should I go for the Irish or UK model?
    Probably going with a 46"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 248 ✭✭ratsam

I'm not an expert on this stuff but if ye have Sky ye have RTE etc etc. I have the UK model with FreeSat and Sky HD and I love it..! If you can get the Irish version with 5 year warranty, FreeSat and MPEG4 for a decent price then go for it...! Cheapest I could find the 46inch in the south was for 1350. I got the 50 for that in Seamus Watters place..!

Where in the south did you get that price Ratsam?

So if I understand correctly the Irish version has the Mpeg decoder and the freesat?

The Irish model does'nt have Freesat.I got mine today from Seamus Watters,€1300 including delivery and Panasonic 5 year warranty,TX-P50G10B.The "B" is the uk model.

There's an awful smell of self promotion and misinformation from this post.

If u read the many threads on the uk panny with the satelite you will find they all conclude the decoder is mpeg4 compliant. Some people who had purchased the uk satelite version and had probems picking up dtt here resolved the issue with a software upgrade.

The same old people keep impying that you must buy an irish version of a panny without the satelite feature to get dtt here which is simply not true. The reason they are doing this is because they make a nice hefty profit when they sell an irish model. Buyer beware:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 248 ✭✭ratsam

While not exactly in the South, Seamus Watters is on the road between Dundalk and Castleblaney which straddles the border. I paid 1350 euro for the 50inch g10... His prices vary from week to week depending on conversion rates. Its a UK version which yes does have the FreeSat tuner and 5 year warranty and yes apparently can decode MPEG4 with a software update...! Dont ask me how all the same. Very happy with the TV..!

    Rats

So the UK version is the one to go for then. Is the software upgrade done via a memory card of over the air?

Can anyone confirm this software upgrade does actually allow you to tune in the DTT channels?

None of the UK Freesat models, either the PZ81B or the newer G10B models, can scan the Irish DTT channels. They could at early stages of the current engineering tests, but then some of the stream flags were changed, and now they can't. They are perfectly capable of displaying the channels, but a flaw in the firmware means they are unable to scan them.

You can, however, use a kludge by uploading the channel data that other owners have posted on this thread for some of the transmitters. Even if the data for your area is there, there is no guarantee whatsoever that the channel parameters will not change in the future, at which point all of the Panasonic Freesat models will be useless for Irish DTT.

Is there no Irish version of the G15? http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/Products/VIERA+Flat+Screen+Televisions/NeoPDP+TVs/TX-P42G15/Overview/2352326/index.html

So the UK version is the one to go for then.

The Irish model G10 has the mpeg4 tuner, UK has freesat. But.....

The UK model does not have user accessible gamma and white balance control, you can access them from an engineering menu but that is supposed to void your warranty.
Irish G10L has gamma and white balance control in the advanced settings menu :)

    Yes, I have one :D

Not sure if the warranty promotion is still running, I think it ended the end of August. I got my warranty cert a few weeks after sending in the form.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,985 ✭✭✭big_moe

yeah the 5 year warranty ended in august but its back now from 1st oct to 24th dec

Just wondering whats coming next after the G10 series and also whats the difference between a G10 & a V10?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,985 ✭✭✭big_moe

the new models wont be announced until next march and wont be available until between may-august.

the main differences the v10 has over the g10 are

    freesat tuner
    dlna
    extra hdmi
    looks different
    better sound
    much slimmer
    thx mode

and thats all i can think of!
