Anxiety - can counselling help?

    Hi guys,
Probably an issue thats been covered here quite often but here goes.Basically I'm a compulsive worrier, have been for years. No matter what the issue,I'll find some way to worry about it.I'm a very lucky guy in many ways, secure job (which counts for a lot these days) and a fiancee that I'm crazy about. But still I find things to worry about - for example, what happens if I mess something up at work, and about what people think of me.It affects my life insofar as I tend to postpone making big decisions as I get so anxious about possible negative consequences. For example,we're planning on getting married next year,my gf wants the two of us to go away and get married on our own and have a party when we get back. That sounds great to me,but the thoughts of mentioning this to my famiy strikes me with terror, and so I try and postpone making a decision. When I'm like this I lose my appetite and get a feeling of tightness in my chest - which I'm sure is familiar to many who have the same problem.

I guess I'm sick of feeling this way.It has really affected my life since I was in school, and I feel like I've missed a lot of opportunities because of it.I have very few friends,I lost contact with many over the years, largely due to my anxiety about what people thought about me.I really want to get this under control so I can get on with my life.Has anyone got experience of counselling for this - would that help?Apologies for the long post folks - any advice would be appreciated.
