I saw Scanners many years ago probably on Channel 4 when they used to show B type movies. They were normally presented by some guy called Cox. I was a kid when I watched it and I have to say I found it pretty disturbing. I got my hands of a copy of it recently and decided to re-watch it last week. Yes, it still has a foreboding type of an atmosphere similar to that of say Terminator 1. The whole idea of it is still pretty disturbing. But my god, the acting in it is atrocious, particularly that of the leading guy who plays Cameron Vale. Michael Ironside didn't do much a good job either. Still a great ending. I forgot about the twist. Overall though, I won't be watching it again any time soon.

I am now considering re-watching Invasion of the Body Snatchers, the 70's remake that had Nimoy in it. Should I bother ?

70's Body Snatchers I watched recently and still quite enjoyed it, a bit of a slower film than I remember it being though! :D

Interesting topic as regards watching old movies again, it really shows the true character and quality of a film when years after you've first seen it it still holds up, as opposed to those films you just watch repeatedly.

I know they're not exactly "old" but I watched The Usual Suspects and Se7en yesterday in a row, having not really watched them in full since the first time I saw them and holy Jesus, they are still two of the most powerful films ever made.

Well, after seeing the new (fantastic) Star Trek film on Friday I have recorded all the other ST films (were on Sky movies all day sat and sun) and am settling myself into watching them all again in sequence over the next few days...bring on the popcorn!!:)

I remember watching Run of the Country years ago and thought it was great, so about 2 years ago I desided to get my hands on it again to rewatch

Talk about trouble it took me for ever ended up having to buy it on Video from the USA.

That was about 18 months ago and after all that trouble still havent watched it

It's been about 5 years since I last saw 2001: A Space Odyssey on a small screen from DVD, but I'm going to try and see it tomorrow at the IFI. 70mm print, big screen, great sound system, front row. Yeah.

edit: make that Thursday, since Keir Dullea is going to pay a visit. Details here.

One of my all-time favourite comedies.

Carrey and Daniels are wonderful (who'da thunk Daniels would be so funny).

Supported by the beautiful (and funny) Lauren Holly.

The toilet scene is obviously a classic, but there were so many great gags in that film.
The cop stopping them and demanding to taste what's in the bottle (same guy who played the crazed "6 minute abs" hitchhiker in Something about Mary btw).
The "Pick you up at 7.45" gag.
Jim Carrey's hair cut and chipped tooth.
    Etc etc.
    Always cheers me up.

That was probably Moviedrome with Alex Cox, who wasn't just a TV personality, but a writer, actor and director himself (Sid & Nancy, Repo Man, and more). Still making B-movies, apparently.

There are dozens of priceless quotes in that film:

    "Tic tac sir?
Get the hell out of here!"

    "I got worms"

    "Samsonite, i was way off"

    "so you're telling me there's a chance?"

The last scene (the babes on the bus) is great as well.
