hi guys, Im looking at buying a new laptop from Harvey Norman here in Limerick, as they offer interest free credit, my budget is circa 500 - 600e and the two Ive shortlisted are the Sony Vaio NS20E, with 3GB RAM, 250 GB hard drive at 579 euros, and the HP Pavilion DV5-1211E, with 3GB RAM and 160 GB hard drive, at 599 euros.
(General family computer, we are not really into playing computer games. And unfortuantely we are totally useless at computers!)
Which one would you suggest is a better buy, and should I be looking at anything else?
    thanks!

wat are the other specs? This is what your looking for. Higher the ram the better. Hard drive space doesnt make much difference as you can get external hard drives for little extra. Your looking for something which suits your needs i know but your gonna want something that lasts. core 2 duo processors are fairly good although you may not need something that good. Try and get something as close to 2.0ghz or more if you can

Don't have time to look up the specs, but I would lean toward the Sony - depending on processor. Sony warranty repairs are a whole lot better than HP, just make sure you register when you buy the laptop.
I've seen a huge amount of HP laptops come back compared to a relatively small number of Sony's. If there is a warranty fault, the turn around time for repair is about 2 weeks. You could have take two weeks to get it booked with HP, they're such an awful pain to deal with.
