Land/Property/Competition law query

OK I'm all for capitalism in the sense that nations shouldn't be left behind from achieving their potential. But it does seem we need to be cautious with constraints. It concerns me so I thought I'd ask those in the know to enlighten me.

What is the situation currently regarding property law-is there a limit to the property one person can own, I'm talking 'real esate' as it were.
Is there a limit on land ownership? Can the invididual with money dictate to a government or get them to sell land? How is it established which land should be government owned and which should be made available, under any universal criteria? And is there a law on how much one business can cover a market? Or how much power someone in media can have? (eg Murdoch hasn't been had up yet) Re advertising, how can they make noises come out of the screen at you and webpages pop up asking you to gamble? Should that even be seen as ethical? It seems there are some extremely tricky ethical problems with advertising such as what degree of manipulation or psychological analysis of the consumer is ethical, when does it cross the line to become intrusive or brainwashing?

Anyone who can enlighten me about the situation on these issues in Ireland, UK, USA or the west generally?

Is there a lot of concern over such things, or is it not the most ethical people that are having influence?

    Answer: No.

    Answer: No.

Answer: No, not in theory. In practice, things can be moved along with the right contacts if land is to be re-zoned. Though, that type of activity had been tightened up and regulated more in recent years.

Answer: This would take quite some time to answer. There are many and varied provisions in law in relation to state land etc. Many laws subsist in Ireland from English rule.

Answer: Yes. Competition Law subsists here both in the Competition Act and indeed the various EU Treaties.

Answer: Yes. But this is harder to control. Again, it is a vehicle or instrument of Competition policy and law.

Answer: With respect, this is a question. of technology, reach, markets and micro-markets. See Microsoft case or EU Commission complaint to the UK on Phorm if you're interested.

Answer: Ethics is a moveable feast, as is advertising.

Answer: Not sure what your point is.

Answer: How long have you got?

Answer: This doesn't make sense in the information age or information society. If you're a capitalist you are not coming across that way.

This post may well be better off in the Theology or Economics section.

    Answer: No.

Thanks. Don't you think there should be limits on property and land ownership? If success and money making is a cumulative kind of process, then someone could own obscene amounts.
