I just WHOIS Queried EBAY.IE and got the Following

so as far i can see their website is still working, i'm on Eircom Anytime 150 (dial up) and i'm getting anything BUT Ebay,
Problem is Definately Down to Eircom's Domain Name Servers.

    boo!!!

I'm an anytime user and had the same issue, but as there is an eircom problem with that at the moment in the Waterford area I'm using eircom pay as you go.

When I swapped over to using an old IOL number and IOL DNS servers problem went away.

Went back to eircom dial up and it was a while before the problem came back again but went after about 20mins when I opened a fresh eBay home page and killed all the fake ones.

If it happens again I think I'll try differnt DNS servers like these at wwwopendns.org see this past thread where there was a previous Eircom DNS issue.

sadly now instead of the hot maid page I now get a page with just a series of useless links =_= ....

Anyway for now best use ebay.co.uk

That opendns site doesn't even work for me. I can get to the home page now but it won't let me log in, it just refreshes the home page over and over again. I sold two items today on ebay and now I can't send invoices! Pretty frustrating.

You should just use ebay.com or ebay.co.uk

They will let you sign in.
    :pac:
And now not only is it not what we wanted but its not even a chick!

Yeah, I've been using ebay.co.uk all day to monitor my sales - the problem is whenever I click on "send payment details" it won't let me send them from ebay.co.uk because the item was registered on ebay.ie. The only way I can send it from ebay.co.uk is to sign in to ebay.ie and change the item details! It's ridiculous!

These were the first ever items I auctioned too - I've got off to a pretty shaky start!

They are aware of the problem, but it looks like it's just an Eircom DNS error. Eircom was buggy all evening before I came across the sexy lady myself.

Last night I took home my work laptop and my french maid from ebay (Ironic for a French man:)) and tried with my 3g moden. All was fine. I dont think it was a computer infection.

Strangely enough this is happening for me again, but this time it's rte.ie that is showing me the young lady. Down for everyone, or just me?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31 LeotCol

Yeah your right....it is like that for the rté page too. It only happened for me when I clicked live though. But assuming it will be the same as the ebay page it should be fixed within the next 24 hours.

I got that french maid problem 2 months ago as well, I'm with Eircom too btw.

My Mother picked up that problem the above poster described from RTE and today I've got something similar from google.

It's a page with this pic.

Anyone know what to use to remove it?

did ye guys gets this problem sorted?? im having the same problem with google.ie tonight... my internet connection is also gone very slow on on sites, is it a problem with my computer or the eircom??

This is always going to be a problem with Eircom's DNS resolving. Switch over to open DNS, http://www.opendns.com/ , just change the primary and secondary dns settings in your router and you won't have this problem again. Much faster and more reliable than whatever the hell Eircom is using.

I had this problem again last night, I'm still using eircoms DNS servers, but this time it wasn't eBay.ie it was boards.ie that was being redirected. This morning its working fine again.

Good point but afaik its just someone out to prove that Eircoms DNS servers have some security flaw. Only problem is if someone hijacks the hijack and adds a more malicious payload, but if they've managed to get your browser to load a completely different page they could already own you PC if they wanted to.

This happened to me before. I got redirected to a fake ebay page (with a login box) that only appeared when I clicked on a genuine auction

I emailed them to tell them about it and the response was appaling. The lady said that it's not within her department to deal with it. That I need to resubmit my query to them under xyz catgory. Wouldn't mind but I emailed help and support under the subcategory (after I eventually found it) website issues

So I never bothered to reply to her since she obviously didn't care their site was comprimised and when the feedback came I let my feelings be known that I really couldn't give a toss about their inter department politics. I reported what I saw as a major security flaw and they didn't want to know.

If they cant communicate between themselves and get it sorted then that's their business. I filed a report, she could have forwarded it on

Love to see that office if there was a fire, one department would rush to the exit and leave the others there since they don't seem to have grasped the basic concept of communication. Very bad for from a multinational corporation

I think this issue is slightly different. You clicked on a link on an eBay page that took you to a page off eBay and this was of course something that eBay should have sorted out. This issue is with Eircoms DNS servers which are linking eBay.ie (and some other sites) with an incorrect IP address (could be something cleverer?) which takes you to a page which is definitely not eBay.ie, when that happens the easiest fix is just to change the DNS server you are using to one that does not belong to Eircom.

    My bad!

In that case, I would recommend a solution such as www.opendns.com

That would certainly help bypass eircom's DNS servers and get people back up and running :)

I use it myself (on NTL) and it's been brilliant

This could be a lot more serious than it appears on the surface. If, as I believe, the Eircom DNS servers were compromised as a result of the kaminsky flaw, everyone that used them for DNS lookups for the period during which they were compromised could potentially have been the victim of some form of authentication/identity theft.
If it's possible to display a 'french maid' it is equally possible to display a fake login page.
