Basically if I fail one module or say, 8, in August/September at the repeats, do I have to pay the full whack to repeat the year?

    Thanks

you'd pay the EU fees, assuming you're an Irish student. About €6k I think but then again that depends on the course.

Def? No matter how little or many modules I failed?

Anyone have any experience of going off books?

As far as I understand. I know someone who failed 7 of this third year exams, and passed 6 at supplementals. Still had to repeat the year, though i'm not sure if he had to repeat every subject. Paid full EU fees too as far as I'm aware. I don't think they are that keen about students repeating off books tbh. You would want to talk to your tutor and the education officer about that.

But theres n need to be thinking like that, You'll pass em all... if not theres always aim for compensation :)

Generally speaking, TCD, unlike some other colleges in Ireland, requires you to repeat the whole year if you fail any part of it. In exceptional circumstances you can repeat "off books" and retake only the exams you need to repeat (presuming there wasn't a CA part).

By repeating off books you only pay the registration fee (~<1000) and not the educational fee (~5500).

You have months till supplementals. Give up your summer and study in the library if you think you need to.

Better than paying 6 grand for a summer off.

There is no reason to fail supplementals in subjects that you can pass if you repeat the year(this is assuming you don't have good reasons like being in a accident/illness, or have picked the complete wrong course for yourself)

You've plenty of time as has been said. Don't understand something? Get in contact with your lecturer.

Hey I failed last year's summer and repeats.

Don't worry you'll be fine. Like it's been said you'd have to repeat the full year or go off books BUT there is a light. If you have a genuine excuse you can sit Super Supplemental Exams which take place in Wk1&2 of teaching terms (might be different this year). You have to sit down with the heads of your department, the dean of discipline, junior dean and the lecturers of the courses you failed and beg and plead with them to let you sit your exams for a 3rd time.

But generally repeats are much harder than summers and supers are near impossible, so buckle down and cram cram cram for the next week!! Repeats just wreck your summer.
