surface bolt with "neck" for French patio doors

    Hi,

Have a set of French timber doors that open out onto a patio. I need to replace the flush bolts and would like something like these surface bolts...

    http://www.carlislebrass.com/accessories/47/1140.htm

However there is a rubber seal on the frame between the door so with these bolts I won't get enough of a "bite" into the frame to work properly i.e. the bolt would only catch the edge of the frame. So I need a bolt with a "neck" (not sure if this the correct term !) to get into the frame a bit. Like these barrel bolts..

Anyone know if it is possibly to get surface bolts like the Carisle one with a neck ? I have tried a few places in Galway city but no luck so far.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

Should be very easy to do , just cut the outer housing where its marked at the top of the attached pic
Then shorten the existing sliding part and braze or bolt on a piece of brass bar.
Or you could just get the sliding part re-made with a step in it. ( best option probably)

Thanks Bushy but not sure the end result would be that pretty. Prefer to get an off the shelf one.

I found out the term is "offset" and not "neck"

Found one in the US but they don't have distributors in Europe - not sure how much it will cost from the US but I'll check it out.

Could you not just use a normal surface bolt, but put a piece behind it to build it out a bit? A piece of brass or something if you want it to look right.

    Some neck u have:D

just consider the fact that the flush bolts, which I presume were hidden in the frame will have been going up into the solid part of the head of the framing
From what you say, doors opening out means that the frame u are going into will include the rebate of the frame which will be weaker.

ideally dont bore the frame but come in far enough to sit the bolt receiver on the frame itself
