I would love advice from anybody who has been and felt excellent afterwards.
    MRI could find nothing.

I have visited 3 over the course of 10 months. All 3 osteopaths said they see same complaint a lot. Paid 60-10 euro a go.
    Expensive and ZERO improvement.

I hurt my lower back and would appreicate any advice.

    I'm desperate from a cure.

    Thanks in advance

I'm going to move this to the Bio&Med forum as it's more suited to that forum. As always I'd ask people not to attempt to give medical advice or 'diagnose' the problem. :)

I think you may need to find the right osteopath. I know they can do wonders if you get the right one.

Go to your GP - he can advise you further, this includes physiotherapy which may make your symptoms much more manageable.

    Hi

After a fall 3 yrs ago i hurt my lower back/pelvis region. It goes down my leg, into my foot. I get lots of pulling/grinding in my pelvis region. A mri scan showed nothing. i've seen lots of different physios.

Been to c 3 osteopaths. Did several sessions with each. Paid 60-100eur per sessions.

After all of this I am still the same as i have been since i first went to any.
    No comfort or anything.

Anyone been to an osteopath with similiar complaint and received any comfort.

who is the osteopath to the Leinster/munster rugby players/GAA players.

    desperate for a cure

    thanks
    Tara

You need to keep in touch with your GP about this who may refer you to an orthopaedic surgeon, pain specialist or physiotherapist if he/she feels it will help you.

I reckon after 3 failed sessions with osteopaths - you definitely should see your doctor sooner rather than later.

Osteopathy is a makey-uppey area of 'healthcare'. A little reading on its origins might give some insight. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osteopathy

If there is nothing wrong with you - it will make you better. If you have a problem, its probably not worth your while.

    Its your money though

    <medical advice>

Medical advice includes advising someone NOT to see a doctor in their treatment.

    <repeated medical advice - banned for a week.>

I don't do this very often.....

while I'd appreciate the fact that you've provided some research here 406C, I'd prefer to read and critique the papers myself before drawing any conclusions tbh. Just because something has been published in a journal does not make it watertight, which I'm sure you already know

Not going to give medical advice just tell a story

Man breaks arm, put in cast for 8 weeks, when cast taken off arm is skinny by comparison to other so does the correct exercises until the arm begins to approach size of other (musculature now balanced and rehabbed -- brief summarising please dont be critical)

Man injures back, told to rest
Lies in bed for a period, during this time muscles in back get smaller because they are not being used, man cant see this, when acute pain gone tries to go back to previous level of physical work or exercise, develops further back pain.
rests for longer, muscles further atrophy (get smaller)
Again man cant see this and doesnt understand why not getting better

The Back is not one homogeneous object
    You have
    • spinal vertebrae
    • discs
    • nerves from spine
    • nerves to joints between vertebrae and ribs
    • joints between vertebrae and ribs
    • muscles
    • ligaments (multiples)
    • short muscles
    • hips
    • pelvis
    • sacro-iliac joints

any of these can cause back pain, getting rid of pain is easy, take pain killers, getting rid of cause for pain much more difficult and will involve
    • GP
    • Physio
    • Back rehab
    • Investigation (you have had MRI there are other tests)

A year is not a long time in an area which is under constant strain carrying you around all day, you can rest an elbow or wrist in a sling, you cant really avoid using your back

Go back to person who ordered your MRI and ask for repeat physical exam

Try to write down for him her
    • where is the pain exactly
    • what makes it worse
    • what makes it better
    • is it related to particular movements
    • How severe is it
    • does sneezing/coughing affect it
    • what type of pain is it
    • how does it affect your life
with those questions you should be able to help your GP out further to get to the bottom of our problem

I am not diagnosing your problem
I am not giving medical advice

Ok this isn't inviting another ban but I would like to clear this up.

So we are allowed to advise someone should visit a GP and this isn't medical advice and when it is evident it is going to be a complete waste of time for both the GP and the OP we are not allowed to advise them not to?

    And drzhivago excellent explanation :)
