    Howayas,

couple of mates and myself are heading to Amsterdam next week, (well i haven't booked yet) anyway flights are €125 return, and were gonna stay in some hostel for 15 a night, lovely :).... anyway, im a tiny little bit reluctant, because, being a student, im poor and unemployed. were staying from the 27th to the 30th, so im wondering would 50 a day suit me (not including hostels) now to the point, im a student so we'll mostly be hitting the cafes, and not many of the museums, maybe heineken, and some clubs, obviously cheapish ones, and ill be drinking (might decide not to if ive spent enough time in the cafes) but drinking the cheapest stuff available, but realistically, muchines involved, cafes involved, and clubs involved, will 50 a day do it?

    cheers

50EUR / day won't do it if you're going to the sex shows .. but it should be enough for a couple of pints and a McDonalds.

we'll no doubt end up in one, somethin like €25 isnt it, might splash out, ha..... wat about the coffee shops?

Not really my cup of tea so I didn't frequent them to be honest. I'd imagine it's cheaper than Ireland and from what I hear you could get a fair bit for 50EUR in Ireland.

I'd say beg borrow or steal more money, you won't regret it.

    €50 a day. Forget it.

I have been to Amsterdam many times and to actually enjoy yourself(without prositution) €50 will not get you far. You might go into a coffee shop but will not be able to buy anything.

You may like the food on a menu but will not be able to afford it.

    What are you going for?

It does not sound like you are going for culture so I imagine you will be missing the Heineken museum, a tour of Amsterdam Arena(AJAX) or a tour of the diamond factory. You sound like you might pass up a trip on the canals.

If you are going for smoking and drinking then buy some skins and "dope" and head over to a designated "dope smoking area" and smoke your brains out and head back to the bar.

Enjoy KFC and McDonalds both just off Rembrantsplein.

Where are you staying? The Globe hotel?

not sure were were staying, didnt organise the whole trip, but i think some cheap hostel (might be the flying pig actually) anyway, we'll probly do a bit of stuff, one of my mates is always doing hockey over ther so he knows some locals. id love to go to the heineken museum, think admission is 15. i could porbably stetch the budget a bit, but im not gonna do any unneccessary spending

hmmmmm its potentially doable but it'd be really stretched. Like i know you can book tickets on the cheap for the heinken museum in the tourist information office. And if you're willing to only eat supermarket food you might be able to get out a bit more. Beer isn't THAT much cheaper than here and from my limited experience, it was 40 euros for 2 hours with drinks for sex shows. i went for 3 days and spent close to 400 euro for me and the OH to see plenty of tourist attractions, eat in a restaurant every night, cafe every morning and get a few quiet drinks at night. 50 euros a day is incredibly optimistic but technically do-able. but to be honest, it might not be worth the hassle

Op if all you are doing is spliffing in a cafe and having a few beers then it can be done on 50 a day. In order to do this your diet will consist of McD'd Burger King, KFC or one of the many kebab shops you'll come across in Amsterdam and you won't be having more than 5-7 pints a day.

If you are staying in the Flying Pig (Downtown) then they have a bar on site which has cheap beers, pints were about €3 when I was last there. Another bonus is you can smoke your spliff in the bar ( at least you could a few years back anyway ). It mean you can spend the afternoon/early evening there getting loaded for cheap before heading out proper.

You can walk in to any shop of the Cafe Bulldog chain and find packets of pre-rolled joints (4) costing €12. That would more than do you for the day and after that the change is for fast food and a few beers. If you want to hit nightclubs then your budget will be scuppered. You won't have much left over for tourist attractions but if 50 a day is all you've got after your bed is paid for then it can be done for sure, albeit tightly.

€50 is not doable in my opinion.€10 for a gram o smoke nd drinks are not exactly cheap, although you will get bottles of 8.5% duvel for €3.50 in most places.
if i were id bring more money.beg borrow and all that.
    you will not regeret it.
strip clubs too. €5 in and a tenner a dance! love it

yeah 50 quid would not be enough if you going to be drinking pints (fiver a pint in most places) and heading into some coffee shops, aword of advice is stay away from the likes of the Bulldog\greenhouse effect they are overpriced tourist traps with low quality smoke, when I go over a nice place to start is "The Green House effect" on Warmoesstraat, you can buy your smoke in the coffee shop part and then head next door to the pub and have a pint and smoke while sitting in the window watching the world go by then go for a lap of the red light to have a gander at the various delights it has to offer. The law about smoking tobacco is not really enforced if your not brazen about it (i.e hide your cigarette butts)

So 100 quid a day you might just get by, so get a few magic mushies (kills the hunger pangs) a deal on some smoke i.e buy 2 grammes and get one free and a few pints then a KFC when the munchies attack

*edit* if you want some recommendions on good coffee shops let me know

Sound I'll be budgeting loads it looks like, sex show is about the only thing we'll go to, not strip clubs, was talking tomates who wer ther last month and the youth hostel they stayed at was 18 a night in a dorm of 20 called avengo I think and it's right in the centre of things not like some places that claim they are, so I reckon that's wer we'll go
