Hi all, does anyone know about second hand furniture,i have a warehouse, where i build timber swingsets, but things are running slow right now, like everywhere i guess,I was thinking of putting an advert in the paper,in that i would remove and decent type second hand frniture, and then store it in my warehouse, and have an open day every few weeks, and sell it on,or would i have to actually purchase the furniture in the first place
    regards jamesy08

Nice idea in theory, but unfortunately most Irish people value their furniture far more than the market rate. In my experience you'd nearly have to be getting it for nothing to make a profit. Ideally you could go to England to fill a container and bring it back here. But don't forget all the expenses vat, delivery, repairs guarantee on all items, sales and public liability insurance.

There is a market out there for good quality cheap furniture, but getting good quality and cheap with a view to making a profit is difficult to do.

Another option is to collect all the goods and have an auction of all the items over a weekend.

Its def a good idea. The way to approach it though is to think of it as a pawn brokers for furniture! Some people need cash quick. They are not going to have the time to wait and try to sell things for already over inflated market prices. That's where you come in.

You must capitalise on peoples situation and need for cash. Offer them small prices (obviously depending on re saleability and conditions). Shift the goods on again at profit.
In relation to marketing, targeting landlords and the likes would be a possible place to shift decent second hand furniture onto. And get a decent online content management web site which is updated daily with new stock. Have a "Make me an offer" feature and an option to have things delivered nationwide. Ireland has always being a place where when something needed to be replaced, a new one was bought without a second thought. Not anymore.

One word of advice - stay clear of most office furniture. Absolute truck loads of it out there and nobody needing it these days.

    Best of luck with it.

Go for it. The only way you will know if it will work is to try it for a while. I think there is a great opportunity in the area of office furniture.
