Not getting pistol now but getting into clays instead.

    Is a Beretta 686 (e i think) good value for €1,850?

Liked the feel of the gun and the urge to pay credit union a visit is rising.

    Rising I tells ya!

Dresden a 686e at €1850 new is a very good price they usually are over the €2k mark. Ideal for clays and have a great resale value i bought one last year for €1995 and traded it in after a year for 682 gold e and got 1500 on a trade i couldnt fault it lovely gun to shoot just preferred the balance and handling of the 682.

Being a cheap bastard, I'd trawl the second-hand market myself. I've seen a nice 682 going for 1200 in an Irish gundealership. Private sales offer better deals again. It is a lovely gun though, I'm just convinced you can find better value. I'd speak to John Lambert, personally. His stock seems to be excellent and his prices are too. Also a sound chap who'll help you with the purchase.

What's the 682 got as a matter of interest? Is it just horses for courses?

I liked the balance and handling better personally. Nice, quick, pointable gun, but steady. I've found the 686's I've shot were a little jumpier on target. I'm not a shotgun shooter though, so that's a really rough impression, just what I got from it though.

the 686/87 is a cracking gun for some one doing a bit of every thing .

if you intend to some more clays than game go for the sporter in the 686/87 there a little heaver have a wider rib and the few extras.

the 682 is more a dedicated clay gun better trigger pulls more weight better handling.

i had a all of them from a onyx ,686, sliver pigeon,682 gold trap.

just find the one thats fits and you like.

Have both 686e and 682E gold. Prefer the 682 purely for the tighter fit when i bring it up to my shoulder. Longer barrel, Snugger fit, less jump when firing. Not to put down the 686. Great gun and shot all around me with it. as said before its down to personel choice. a chap i shoot with won't buy or use anything but Browning whereas i'm a Beretta man. Just keep trying gun after gun for fit and don't look at price until you find something that feels as though it is an extension of your arm. When your happy with the fit then look at price and choose according to your budget. For 2K you should have plenty of options.

If you can stretch the budget to the 682, go for it. They are a peach of a gun and a fair bit ahead of the 686. I've a 682 Gold E with adjustable stock and high rib with a really nice piece of timber. It's multi choke though it stays at full/full most of the time. It's a lovely pointable gun with enough weight to stop it jumping. Trigger pull is crisp and nicely weighted on both barrells. I think the one I have is about €3,200 new in Ireland but you'll probably find a second hand one around somewhere.

On a slightly related note the 682 runs at €3200 on average but as posted before see Sean in Stakelums in Thurles. I can only go on personel experience but he has a great range of new and second hand guns but i got mine from him at €2850 minus the trade in. I swear i don't work for him.

€300 for the sake a few minutes down the road. OUCH! If anything i'm guilty of the opposite. I take a lifetime to make up my mind. The problem is you are always going to hear of getting what you just bought from someone else cheaper so i suppose its just a matter of shopping around as much as you can and going for the best deal you can get at the time.
