In the market for a laptop and I'm a bit torn between two potential choices I have for a choice of laptop, which I'll share with you now:

    Targa Laptop (€280)

    or...

    Asus Laptop

On the one hand the Targa Laptop seems to be alot better value for money as far as the specifications go, but I'm told the Asus laptop has more energy efficient parts and a better wireless setup which would be important as far as internet on the move goes.

    What do you guys think?

I think the Targa looks wonderful value for the money. Are you sure LIDL are selling it in Ireland? I looked online and it's not in their special offers section...

Deal's on up the North next thursday which means a trip to Belfast is in order. Battery life of 2 hours on the Targa one looks awful.

You're not comparing like with like. The Asus is a netbook, whereas the targa is a fully fledged 15.6" laptop. The netbook is ideal if it's being carried around a lot as it's small, light and cheap, and with a great battery life. However it's specs are compromised as a result. The Targa laptop, although still cheap is significantly larger and heavier than the netbook but has the spec to handle some more intense tasks.
OP you need to decide what you want, a laptop or a netbook? What are your needs specifically? Is mobility a big issue? Or is more processing power etc important? Do you require a cd/dvd drive? as the asus does not have one.

Re the Targa. If it goes wrong will you have to go all the way to Belfast to get any issues sorted? I am considering buying one of these as the value seems so good but this is the only thing that worries me.
By the way despite battery life issues it really is unbeatable value for money. There's many similar brand machines that cost double what Lidl are asking.

Mobility to me isn't really an issue. I don't have a problem carrying around a larger laptop than the Asus. I'd rather the laptop did actually have a CD/DVD drive. The only thing that really is bothering me is the battery life on the Targa. Would it be possible to buy a better battery for it?
