Any good alternatives to DriverMax for identifying and sourcing drivers?

I used DriverMax last month to identify drivers after installing the Windows 7 Beta and it did a great job, though I was surprised at how many drivers the Win 7 installation actually nailed.

I've just installed the Win 7 Release Candidate on my home theater PC and want to do the same with my Samsung NC10 and also want to get the gf's Vista laptop a once-over to see if better drivers might speed it up.

I have found DriverMax extremely slow recently - server unavailable, very slow to download, and they have posted messages asking to limit to one download per day which isn't very useful though I understand they are doing so as they wish to remain free and want to keep costs down.

I tried out DriverGuide but didn't find it great. Does anyone know any good alternative programs that smoothly identify new driver updates and allow easy downloading and installation?

I'd be happy to pay, I dunno, up to $50 for this sort of software as long as I could use it on all my home machines as it would save a lot of time and hassle.

I never heard of a free version of Driver Genius?

Even if there were a fee version? typically they just tell you if you have driver updates available for your system. Accessing the driver updates through the software often requires purchasing a license.
