    Hey,

This question has come about as I have seen a nice rise in my contribution this month.

I know the health levy is more than likely the factor for this - but as the title suggests, just want to know how it is calculated.

    Thanks.

    In short, it depends....!

not helpful i know! it depends on your income which will determine your PRSI class.

if i take it that you are on a weekly salary of more than 500 gross and are not a company director, then it is as follows:

First 127 euro at 4 per cent with the balance at 8 percent.

see welfare.ie for the different classes and income bands

    Too lazy to google eh

    http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Topics/PRSI/Pages/Specindex.aspx

There are loads of calculators out there- there's even one in the links sticky.

4% PRSI up to the ceiling and health levy and income levies depending on income.

You'll have to post your income for a more accurate calculation.
