Quick question lads ,I have a mexi strat I bought in the states and I restrung it lately with 10's as a result the whole setup has gone to pot which makes me think that it was shipped with 009's , if that the case how would I go about optimising the setup for 10's ? .

    Cheers,

What exactly is wrong? You should only have to adjust the springs on the trem, and check the intonation.

Like the others said, what do you mean by "gone to pot"? At a guess i'd say the bridge has lifted of the guitar by quite a bit, if so you can adjust the springs (tighten them!) at the back panel of the guitar.

Wow that was quick ! Thanks Lads for the replies .

The whole feel of the guitar has changed ,yes the bridge has lifted a lot.Haven't checked the intonation yet what order would you do the setup and will the relief need adjustment ?. I have a gig next fri and I need to get it spot on, if I can .

    cheers,

Posted a thread here not too long ago with exactly the same qs.

Adjust the springs carefully (i am talking quarter turns at a go here) and you will be right.

I cant play with 9's at all, far too flimsy for me and 10's on a Strat are not standard so yeah adjustments had to be done!!!!

Remove the plate at the back of the guitar, and carefully adjust the springs (by turning the screws) until the bridge is around where it should be. Then tune it up, and check whether the springs need another adjustment. When the guitar is in tune and the bridge is right, check the intonation and the neck.

It's unlikely that the neck relief or intonation will need to be changed just going from 9s to 10s, but worth checking.

Personally I think 10s on a strat are perfect, but I like heavier strings on an archtop or similar. :D

I dont understand what you mean when a say 00.9s are flimsy , i use 00.8s!

I suppose its whatever you're used to. I use 12's on a tele and I they feel normal to me.

Personally I find that heavier strings give a much better tone.
