Anyone know of any rumours about a release of the next generation iphone. I have the 2g and would like to upgrade to 3G but not if they plan to come out with a better version in the next year.

I heard this morning that with the 4G network in the testing phase that iphone are looking to move networks here in the US for a 4G version of the iphone. Wont be for a couple of years which is why I am wondering is there another due for release before then.

The third version of the iphone is expected to be announced on the 8th of June at Apples World Wide Developer Conference in San Francisco.

Theres a Keynote address at 10am and theyre expected to introduce the new iphone with 3.0 software update and another few bits and pieces.

The 4g network one wont be until next June/July i'd say. As nobody bar Asia has the infrastructure to support it.

So the release date wouldnt be for a short while after the anouncement i would imagine.
Ya as far as i am aware the 4G is only just been tested in some major cities yet.
Do you think it would be worth it to hold out for the newest version or just get the 3G

I've been trying to get a factory unlocked iphone 3g from ebay but they're very expensive.

I'd say wait if you can afford to but there won't be much of a difference between the two. Except for a 3.2MP camera. The software update will be available for all 3g users and the functionality will be mostly the same.

Sometimes Apple ship on the same day as their announcements with computers. But traditionally with the iphone they usually say it ships 1 month or so from the announcement date. I'd say this is because if they were to ship on the same day and their supplies were in place around the globe. It wouldn't be a surprize anymore. One of them would have been leaked onto the net.

Keep an eye here for updates

You would never guess its my homepage would you? :pac:

OP, I guess it depends on whether you are looking to sign up for an O2 phone, or get an unlocked/jailbroken phone somewhere online after the launch.

I was just looking to O2 for a new phone I'd definitely hold off as the announcement is in just over three weeks. But you might be waiting a long while for an affordable broken new model if that's what you're after.

ya i think i will hang on and see what is about to be released. I am not in Ireland so i wont be with O2 but i will have to sign a 2 year with At&t alright. So that will be worth considering, along with advantages a jailbroken phone gives.

AT&T are supposed to be offering a new discounted rate of $20 for the 'lite' data bundle so i'd wait for that.

Even if it doesn't come directly with the new iphone hang on a couple of weeks until they announce it.

Good chance they will announce a 32GB version with a digital compass amongst other things...

Also heard roumors of an OLED iPhone later in the year.

I was in the same position around 2 weeks ago so I contacted my source in apple to see if any of these rumours were true ( I had read about the source code in 3.0 having the ability for 802.11n etc.). He informed me that the keynote will be primarily about the new OS and that there will be tweaks being made to the current 3g iphone as in higher clocked processors and RAM. He thinks that if they even decide to discuss the release of a next generation of iphone, that realistically it won't be released till Q1 of next year.

He actually advised me against getting an iphone as he said that there has been major undiscussed issues in the new OS and that it could cause alot of headaches for consumers who upgrade but i went and got one anyway!

    Hope this helps your decision

Would be a missed opportunity for Apple if they delayed release til Q1 next year with many AT&T reaching the end of their contracts this summer - and the release of the Palm Pre

Wonder if Apple are changing their exclusivity agreements?

Can't see Apple not keeping to a yearly update cycle for the iPhone. However I could see another model, an iphone nano for example, being released early next year.

Apple are supposedly going to release the 3rd iPhone at the WWDC.

And have ordered millions of 5mp cameras for a product they will release later this year as well. So that's possibly the 4th iPhone.

Personally, I'd wait seeing as the current iPhone sucks so badly.
