I got a really squeaky set at an unnamed place - el cheapos

They agree to replace - labour free if i buy a set, was my suggestion and Im
    happy with that. Not ecstatically.

I need to be second time lucky.

    What brand are great?

I'd recommend EBC Green Stuff, good and low dust. You can order them online and I'm sure plenty of Irish stockists too...

    Squeaky brake pads...

Brake noise is caused by high frequency vibration.

Regardless of pad type, anti squeal pads (available from Mintex/decent motor factors, if not fitted to your pads as std) fitted to the pad and moving surfaces cleaned off & treated with copper grease (anti seize paste) will eliminate 99.9% cases of squealing disks.

Sorry to jump in on your thread, but I don't see the point of starting a new one when this is pretty much the same :o

I want to replace the brakes on my A3 myself (will be using this guide oooo-a3 GUIDE
Couple of things, from the FASH (UK Import) I can't see if they've been changed before. Car has 55k miles on it so I would assume they haven't been done yet? If I was replacing the brakes, would it be a good idea to replace the rotors at the same time?

Any recommendations for pads/rotors for an A3 2.0TDI (not quattro)?
I've seen the green stuff ones you put up Tipsy Mac, are they really worth double the price of the normal pads?
Also anyone have any idea how much an audi garage would charge for pad/rotor replacement?

They removed the wheels again to un glaze them. Same issue, sueals like a bus.

Prior to original fitting I asked to see the box and there was no ISO or BS mark to be seen, el cheapos. I was in a rush a chanced it.

Id say better quality pads will do the trick

Avoid avoid avoid!!! Not OEM equipment, and known for brake squeal. OP, if you get Ferodo, Abec or Mintex, you can't go wrong, and maybe your discs need to be changed as well.

What you need to be looking for OP is an "E-mark" on pads. It is a legal requirement now for brake pads to have this stamp on brake pads for sale throughout EU member states.

Have a read on Regulation 90 and the E-Mark here...

Avoid them like the plague - they were fitted in a Civic I worked on and they were horrid. Took ages to get up to temp, and went off about a mile later (it was spirited driving mind....)

Try the Audi main stealer, Mintex, Ferodo etc...

For spirited driving, try Ferodo DS2500. I have them in the front of a Mk2 Escort and they work well;)

Surely in these recessionary times you could go to a dealer or VAG specialist and strike a deal with them whereby you weren't screwed up the bum - get pads replaced with original brand and get disks checked as well?

You must have better things to do with your spare time than faff about on the internet researching something as boring as brake pads:confused:
