Hi I currently subscribe to UPC analogue TV package for about €25 per month (17 channels ) Thinking of switching to Digital, Does this mean I still have to pay €25 per month for analogue plus €27 per month for go Digital select package i.e. €52 per month? Basically do you need a analogue connection to get digital? Also I see they have deals on at the moment about combining TV, broadband, and phone anyone think this would be a better option?

The basic entry level digital package is €20 a month and this currently include the analogue service.

Im pretty sure that 49euro will get you digital tv, 1mb broadband and a phoneline. And its half price for the first 3 months. Seems like the best deal out there :)

So does this mean i can cancel my analogue and pay just 49 for digital broadband and phone?

You keep the Analogue for free.

You bill is for Digital and your Analogue is no longer considered part of your bill.

Should UPC turn off Analogue at some future date you can't complain.

You can get basic digital for 20 Euro this cuts your bill.

Here is what you get for 20 Euro a month http://www.upc.ie/television/digitaltv/value/

But by going for this pack you agree that Analogue is a free extra that may be turned off at a future date to free up space on the cable network.:)

So is there some advantage to keeping analogue? i.e. if they do cancel it and you "complain" are you due money or refunds or anything?

I have always wondered why it is cheaper, I presumed to entice people to change so there would be fewer complaints. But of course there will be uproar if they do cancel it and want €8.50 per point in your house which was using analogue before. I would have to cancel if they did that, it would be foolish to pay for my 4 points at that price, 5 including the DIY job.

Either way, UPC will eventually switch off analogue, probably within the next two to three years.

The reason is 1 analogue channel takes up the space of about 8 to 10 digital standard definition channels, 4 - 5 HD channels or extra 50 Mbit/s of broadband (for Video On Demand, etc.).

They will need the space to offer new services people want.

Hopefully UPC will offer a cheap basic digital multiroom service as a replacement (e.g. 17 channels for €3). If that is too much for you then DTT + Freesat in the other rooms will give you over 80 channels for free.
