    Hey,

Has anyone bought a pair of handbuilt wheels off CRC? I'm just looking for a basic set, they have a good price on Deore hubs/Mavic EN321 rims.

Bought a set of deore on 521s maybe 6 yrs ago: good precursors to what you're looking at - no buckles, no problems to date so

Hubs are starting to show their age and the braking surface is pretty seroiusly worn but that's about it and that just down to wear and time.

I just had to send back a 819/XT wheel. basically feel apart after 40 mins of riding.

They said it was my own fault for not upgrading to prolock nipples when i ordered....The standard nipples are not suitable for mountain biking....

And now they want to charge me £15 to upgrade the nipples.

    there you go....

Check out Merlin cycles also, they are quite renowned for their wheelbuilding and the ones on my malt are pretty solid so far.

No, not personally, but our house is full of his wheels. My uncle (a vet now) would know him from his own younger racing days and put us in touch. Me/brother/dad/uncle would all be cycling around on Steve's wheels, though there are more factory ones sneaking in and recently and I am rolling my own.

The rhyme was just a moment of inspiration :-)

We have gone to him directly and through Humphries of Finglas. Not sure what/if other shops use him, but his shed had an unimaginable mountain of wheels in it when I went there once as a kid. Awesome! He must build for the whole country!

hey thanks for the tip. Turns out they are cheaper than CRC, just postage makes them a bit more expensive.
