    Hey boardsies,
I am trying to detox today, been feeling a bit sluggish and icky lately.

I am cutting out wheat, dairy, sugar, salt, red meats, processed foods, and just sticking to fruit, veg, rice, nuts, oats (porridge) and good old water, milk thistle and apple cider vinegar.

i am gonna walk and swim/sauna later, maybe gym if i feel up to it.
I am wondering if i can have an egg or some turkey mince?
    anybody else done similar?

i plan on continuing the no sugar and salt, processed foods after today....

let me know what ye think....:)

well i got an email with a reply to my thread but its not showing here.

In response YES i know that there are sugars and carbs in fruit and veg.

When i said i was gonna cut carbs for the day i meant pasta, cereal, bread as most of these things have so many additives in them, even with wholemeal versions which is all i eat anyway.

Meat is grand but i was going to try to get my proteins from nuts and beans if i could. I do like a bit of an animal at dinner time but i have turkey mince in fridge and some eggs and was wondering if anyone had done strict detoxification would advise against them...

Mostly i chose to do this to kick up my metabolism, bulk up on fibre for my colon, focus on my eating in a more controlled way and get rid of salt and sugar from my system (and by sugar i mean processed variety).

    so far today i had
porridge made with water and mixed spice
a very large smoothie of strawberries, blueberries and raspberries and lemon juice
    a pear
    a banana
    a handful of almonds
    water

I have a bit of a headache and am pretty hungry after trailing around city with bf shopping and simultaneously smelling the forbidden delights

I really hate the word detox.

Why not just opt for a normal, healthy diet?

each to their own i guess on this one.
I just felt like i needed to do it psychologically as much as physically because my diet has been poor lately and i felt i'd lost track of things.

Im only trying to fix my eating habits the last 8 months and have been doing reasonably well but things had been more 60/40 than 80/20 with clean eating in last month.

Is your liver missing or something? "Detox" is a meme for selling you what you don't need. Eat a healthy diet and drink enough fluids.

can you explain what you mean by 'detox'?

seems like you want a quick fix. just eat plenty of fresh fruit and veg and get some daily exercise and you won't feel so sluggish. it's very straightforward.

Ah I was only messin' should've slung an emoticon in there somewhere. :o

Your liver will do all the detox you'll ever need doing really.

i am not looking for a quick fix....
I started eating well and exercising at a gym, walking to work and cut out alcohol and salt from my diet over 8months ago. I lost 5 stone and recently gained 7lbs back due to bad eating and lack of exercise. I wasnt happy about this but wasnt doing so great at getting back to eating properly, i kept slipping up, biscuits here, a takeaway there, a sweet or three at work (in a hospital so LOTS of sweets everywhere). Mostly i was just eating bad cos i've just been laid off and was upset.
I just want to have one day of completely decent eating. No crap.
I feel like it will help me get back on track.
Like i said, its as much psychological as physical.

    ok then...

    peace out.

Do you not have any faith in milk thistle or the likes? its known for its benefits of cleansing the liver....

I take it every now and then and my bf who is a very very healthy eater swears by it. All i can say is it makes me pee like crazy.....

It seemed a better option than taking TONS of lactulose everyday, which is what we in the healthcare profession give to patients with cirrhosis, it helps to detox or cleanse the liver... mostly i saw it cleanse the colon....
