Novice looking for a road bike

Hi all,
I'm competing in Gael Force West this summer and want to buy an entry level road bike so I can start training ASAP. I was planning to spend around €600. Can anyone recommend something suitable in that price range?
I've checked out a few shops here in Limerick but thought I might be able to get better value by purchasing online, any good sites I should check out?
Also, I'm about 6 ft 4 in and 16 stone, I'm thinking a 62 cm frame would be suitable for me, does that sound right?

62 seems a little big. I'm a shade under 6'3" and ride a 58. You might be OK with a 60. It might be tricky getting your hands on a bike that big for that price range, but you never know, maybe there are a few out there.

Lidl are still selling the Shimano Ultegra Road bike at €899 it might be more than you want to pay, but you get a lot of bike for the money.

go down to your local bike shop and try a few bikes for size, that way you'll have an idea what size if you see anything second hand, check out adverts on here and buyandsell.
because of your size you'll only have a limited choice.
check out www.chainreactioncycles.com and www.wiggle.co.uk www.evanscycles.co.uk to name a few. you'll find something suitable for €600 but if you like cycling you'll be sorry you didnt spend more.
Try halfords aswell, their carrera road bikes good basic starter bikes IMO.

And you'd have 200 notes to put towards some nice kit, bike bottles, cyclo-computer and the like
