Thinking of going to Wales for a few days in Aug. Have 2 children 4 and 1. We are considering getting boat to Holyhead and then hit maybe Chester Zoo and THomas & Friends in Llangollen on the way south. Has anybody any recommendations for places to visit? We will probably go home via Rosslare.

Yes. I saw that. Was just looking for any first hand experience or recommendations as opposed to a marketing group spin.

Ahh...fair enough. Wish I could help you more but I normally get off the ferry at Holyhead and rocket through Wales as fast as I can.

Thomas & Friends sounds cool though!

Yes it sounds to be. Have seen it recommended in a few forums. http://www.llangollen-railway.co.uk/friendsofthomas.html

I would recommend the lively university town of Aberystwyth about half way down the coast. Very family friendly with lovely scenery, beaches, castle ruins and a hilltop viewing point which you can take a train up to. http://www.aberystwyth.com/
There's also a very impressive 'animalarium' in nearby Borth where the kids can get very close to the animals. http://www.animalarium.co.uk/
You won't be disappointed... if the weather's nice!!

Thanks Nehcola. That's the sort of recommendation I was looking for. I spotted Aberystwyth alright and thought it may have potential for a night or two. Great to get a second opinion.

Pembrokeshire is a nice spot too, if you are going to be returning via Rosslare, a few nice places along there .. the beaches are fantastic!!

If you're heading near Barmouth - stay at the Ty'r Graig Castle hotel. It's a delight!
