Have a serious fetish for white telecasters but extensive searching yielded no results. I have since purchased a lite ash telecaster which Im eager to respray. An assistant at music maker however assured me that its an inadvisable practice and would adversely affect the guitars tone. Anyone care to shed some light on my predicament!?:)

Does the Lite Ash Tele not come in white anymore? It certainly used to!

I wouldn't say that a professional refish would adversely affect tone, especially considering that that is an entirely subjective consideration.

The Lite Ash series are made in Korea with a very thick poly finish - it would be very difficult to remove it to start.

While it might effect the guitars tone somewhat thats not to say it will effect it in a bad way, good tone is in the ear of the beholder......or pageys les paul :pac:

EDIT: is it EFFECT or AFFECT, its driving me mad, http://www.future-perfect.co.uk/grammartips/grammar-tip-effect-affect.asp < still cant figure it out, OK im going with effect!!

White telecasters aren't hard to find. I bought a white Telecaster Deluxe in Musicmaker last year and then subsequently sold it a few months later on adverts. :o

Anyways... just look and you'll find them. Don't waste your money on a refinish for something you can easily get off the shelf.

Here's a search from thomann showing all the white Telecasters.

Dunno if this will work tho... just try it.

Hmmmm, everyone knows that blue motorbikes are faster than red ones but I'm not sure about guitar colours and tone.

Doing a respray is a bit of a job to do right though. Dord has a point, if you haven't done it yourself it will cost a bit, and it might be worth considering selling the one you have and getting the one you want.

Black guitars & basses sound better, while red ones play faster. Everyone knows that! :D

As Ravelleman said, if there's a thick poly finish on it, don't bother your ar$e. More hassle than it's worth imo.

If you do go ahead and do it, don't forget to add some fins to lower wind resistance and a nice racing stripe, ala Homer Simpson :pac:

I know a guy who customizes guitars. His name is james, i can give you his details if you want to get in touch.

He generally builds guitars from scratch from pre-orders but i'm sure he could do something for you if your interested.

    Heres his website

Pfft, adversely affect tone? You're telling me if I put a layer of spray paint on my guitar, it'll sound different??

My old black squier strat is now Guerilla White (ie, your garden variety graffiti artist spray paint), and apparently now I have inferior tonez?? ffs...

    Well..

Have you had a hit record? Are you packing out stadiums globally? Do women drop at your feet?

    Coincidence?........

    :p

Well if the current state of popular music is anything to go by, I don't need any talent to do that! So I don't think my paint quality would hamper my chances either.

According to Alexander D*mble; fragile harmonics can't survive in a crystal lattice...maybe they can't flow through paint that reflects all wavelenths of light either? :pac: This guy in Music Maker could be on to something...

He's talking about transistors, right? If so, he's correct - only valves can give out even order harmonics when overdriven.

True, if you're talking about overdriving the device itself. Second order harmonics generated elsewhere in a circuit will pass through a crystal lattice perfectly unharmed or "squashed". Transistors do not prevent the flow of any harmonics. They are better at exactly reproducing signals than valves are and have a better frequency range. Don't get me wrong, I'm a valve overdrive man all the way, but SS devices have valid uses, even in the signal path.
Plus the guy is so full sh*t it's annoying. This is the guy who used to charge $5k-10k + per amp, paid upfront and didn't let you call him until he was ready. He is supposed to have kept money and not delivered an amp from the likes of SRV and Eric Johnson because they broke his "conditions". He also tries to sue anyone who uses the word D*mble in print, hense the asterix in jest.
