Sony Vaio Wireless Problem!

I'm hoping some of you clever lads can help me! I've got a Sony Vaio PCG-7G1M (don't think this really matters) and the wireless on/off switch got damaged a while back. I have wireless broadband here but on my own laptop I have to use the DSL cable. Anyway, I'm currently looking at moving into a new place which has wireless broadband available and I'm wondering is there any way of enabling wireless on the laptop without this button (it's beyond repair I'd imagine) as I can't afford a new laptop! :pac: I know on the older laptops you could use a USB dongle thingy and I'm wondering if it's possible for me to do something like this. Anyway, hope that makes some sense.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

    OK - I thought I'd just solved this - I went to Device Manager>Network Adapters and enabled Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection..

    but

when I search for wireless networks it still asks me to make sure the wireless switch on my laptop is on..

    :(

On Vaios you should have a program called Vaio Smart Network Or Wireless Switch Utility.
Make sure wireless is also enabled in here.

    Hi guys, me again.

Thank a lot for the reply floydmoon. Unfortunately, I don't have either on my laptop and it's driving me mad!! I can't seem to find a download compatible with my Vaio either.

    Anybody have any other ideas?

    Thanks.

    Another question.

Does anybody know if I get that 02 mobile broadband will I need this button working?

    Thanks.

Got this sorted! Wireless adaptor did the trick, eventually!

I'm also having the same problem, had to open up my Vaio to repair the DC plug (it was coming loose) and when i re-assembled the laptop the wireless switch seemed to lose functionality. Its now permanently switched to the "off" position.. is there any software overrides for this available? I'd imagine its a fairly common problem, surely there is an easy fix somewhere?
