Bmw E46 uk tax disc holder wire?

Got an E46 2004 import from the north. I know they have different thing with the tax/insurance disc and not sure what i have on my car, neither does the dealer. It seems to be a tax disc holder, but has a wire connected to it. Anyone know what the wire might be about? Want to cut it, but afraid it might be a security device that mould have a knock on effect. Dealer said it might be radio aerial as there is nothing external for this. Thought the aerial on these cars was built into the rear view window, but could be wrong. Any help appreciated.

That's weird. The tax disc holder isn't by any chance illuminated, is it? The only other thing I can think of is that it's alarmed, but it looks as though the disc can be removed without interfering with it. AFAIK, they do have problems with tax discs being stolen in the UK, but i'm really just guessing here.

It's likely that it's a covert mobile phone antenna.
Does the car have a mobile handsfree kit installed?

I have a similar tax disc holder in my E46, Its an antenna for the car kit in mine as far as I know.

Might actually be antenna for mobile phone kit that was in it. Only the cradle and mic of caar kit were showing so got rid of them. There are controls on the steering wheel for car kit so that's probably it. Doesn't illuminate and doesn't stick to the window anymore. Just sits there like some sort of cord to pull and the car turns into a Vanquish:D Will hang on to see if anyone can confirm the mobile antenna and if it'd be ok to get rid off. Thanks for the info

you can buy these to allow you to mount a gps away from the windscreen also afaik. so it could be for a gps
