Warehouse/Fulfillment services

    Hi folks,

    We run an online retail business and are considering outsourcing the fulfillment side of things (storage/picking/packaging/delivery).

    Does anyone have any experience of this?

    It seems to me to be a HUGE risk. You are handing your reputation over to somebody else. The work involved in trasferring/moving stock etc is such that it will be very difficult to undo if things go awry.


    Anyone have any experience or advice?

    hey there ,

    do you mean like contracing an agent to do the work for you as in delivering ??? courier company wise ??

    Hi Pbody,

    Currently, we store all our products in a waerhouse, which we rent. When an order comes in, we pick the items and pack them in boxes. We then get a courier to deliver.

    What I'm talking about is contracting the whole storage/picking/packing side of the operation in addition to the delivery.

    So we'd just sent them the orders and they would pick the stock from their warehouse and pack it and deliver it to the customer.

    I've had a bad experience or 2 in this area, as a customer. A major national supplier, these guys would sell their goods to over 5,000 outlets, used a major international courier company to deliver goods for them (collect and deliver) and went to full service. This was a disaster, with goods arriving days late and in one case not at all (delivered to someone else).

    Be careful who you choose. And don't forget, if you get into any difficulty, those guys have your stock. :eek:
