Do you have to be a member or the gym to use them?

go to the 1838 club(the restuarant for postgrads and lectures) beside the canteen, take a right into the resturant and the toilets are right there complete with two nice showers before you actually enter the toilets :) no one is ever using them it seems

You don't need to be a member to use the showers in the sports hall. Go into the gym, where the basketball courts are. Then just up on the left is a male changing room and showers. Not the most glamorous, but does the job.

I remember being told that you could use the showers described above and one of my mates (in a similar situation as he cycles) went to use them and the people on the desk wouldnt let him in without gym membership. He asked and told the person that he heard they were free but he was told otherwise.

Could depend on the person on the desk but Id ask before assuming.

I dont even ask. I walk straight up and they open it for you. Just say your having a game of basketball or squash or something

It was definitely the person then.

He went up and it was closed so he went up and asked could he have the gate opened. They asked where he was going and he said to the changing rooms. They asked why and i forget how he replied but they basically asked which name the booking was under. He started getting a bit thick at this point (cause the person wasnt apparently being very pleasant) and guessed a name which wasnt there and that was that. He had to turn on his leave and leave.

Cycling from blanch to DCU? Hard-core!

Have you tried just cycling in, just wearing shorts and a t-shirt? You could do that and just get changed afterwards. Just leave your jeans and a few spare tees in a locker or summid.

I'd personally go with going into the smelly old showers. Just banter away with whoever is behind the desk. They might even take pity on ya if you give an explanation :D Just man up!!

There are showers in the basement of the science block. Quite clean etc.

They - as with all 1838 facilities - are for Staff and Research Postgrads only.

That may be the case but this is not enforced as far as I can see.

It's the same with most things in DCU. You have to be a member of something or affialiated with one thing or another to get anything done.
