Hip Pain during and after running.

Hi guys, I'm starting to experience fairly sharp pain on around my hip and buttock when I run.

I have moved to grass now and took a week off running to try and rectify it.

The hip felt absolutely fine after the week, so I went out this morning before work for about 3.5 miles on the grass (about .5 of this is on the road in order to get to the grass, but its mostly grass.)

My hip is quite stiff and sore now, (sore to the touch even.) I used to play rugby and it feels like I got a good belt on it- bruised even.

I don't mind a bit of pain, but I don't want to damage it long term (and end up with a hip replacement etc.

Is this normal for a runner, is there anything I can do? Should I change my runners (can this really solve everything?

Thanks a mill for any help!

    See a physio

could be ITB problems or general muscle tightness in the low back / glutes

I had something similar caused by poor running style and the physio gave me tips on stretching

Unless you've fallen on it I'd say its unlikely to be the hip bone itself

The advice to see a physio or other health/sports professional is the best way to go. We can't give medical advice here.
