Rest between race days

I’m wondering how long do you and should you rest for in between races?
I have an option of racing today and tomorrow but I decided just to do the one tomorrow for fear of being too tired.

but maybe I'd get away with it?

    What do others do?

    Thanks!

I,ve the option of doing 3 races a week ,Sunday,Tuesday and Thursday,so with a day in between and 2 on Fri and Sat i think it,s just about enough, i stay of the bike completely and make sure i do long stretching routines, maybe a little swimming, deffo adequate rest is essential, though judging from my results so far this season i don,t think i,m getting enough .

I've a race tonight, and a TT tomorrow night, but I've done shag all since last Wednesday so I'm hoping I'll be OK for the TT.

LOL! you might have to handle the crazies alone I'm afraid! :p
Thursday is a TT up Howth and I really want to do it. I don't think I'll have the legs with no rest today

You are in the wrong place asking that question ... this forum is full of loonies ...

I still remember the light spin to recon the course in Meath the day before the race ending up in a 160km spin for a few boardsies who were racing ...

Any talk to rest will get you on the wimp list.

I am a big fan of racing on consecutive days. Gets you ready for stage races.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 485 ✭✭biker_joe

    The TT on Thursday is only 8 - 15 mins !! but a good warm-up needed !

personally I reckon during the racing season, two rest days depending on how you work too can be a factor .....also look at your weekly hours on the bike ...so if your are doing for example 10 - 12 hours a week... scale back every 4th week, and do less like 6 hours ... this is unload fatigue and avoid over training and burn-out ! ......

There is also your goals too, to consider too, so prioritise races A, B C ...
So you might mark a Wednesday race as a C race, i.e. used for training ...
and Sunday's an A race i.e one you want to ride your best in or peak for ...

    Monday - rest
    Tuesday - spin
    wednesday - race/hard spin
    Thursday - reco spin
    Friday - rest
Saturday - race / long steady spin
    Sunday - race

    +1

It really depends on how fit you are and how quickly you can recover. You should race tonite and tmw pace yourself doing the TT and if you feel good then push harder.

Racing will bring you on more than a TT, especially racing consecutive days.

8 minutes of an all out assault! Acutally, I'd love if I could do it in 8 minutes.

    Hmmm....sounds painful.

....i'm thinking several months of rest before that :D

However the general opinion is leaning towards 2 days in a row in which case we will see you later :D

    ;););)

I'm already kind of tried after training a bit hard up Howth on Monday so I'll see later. (Yes I am a total wimp)

Well I definitely don't need to be getting myself ready for any of them yet but good to know.

Only 8-15 mins you make it sound so easy!

I'm thinking two in a row would be tough but achievable .... hmmm

TT's are never EASY !!! Cos the whole point of them is ride as hard as possible without blowing your Lights !! and tolerate the PAIN at the same time !! God this does sounds like a VERY painFUL Sport indeed !!

I think the fastest time up the hill I know of this year is 8.34 by a TT specialist from Usher !!! If I do under 10mins I will be very happy !! Considering I am in a jocker at the moment !!

Question is will I go all out Aero ? ( tis to be windy up there tomorrow )
i.e. Skinsuit, TT overshoes, Aero helmet !! you don't often get an excuse to look like an alien on a bike !!

I'm hoping for in and around 12 - ish mins. I ride limit and am a girl (not that it should make a diff) so I think that will be respectable.
