I have been elected to the position of Clubs and Societies Officer in ITB. So starting September I hope for there to be a lot of changes in our clubs and societies but I need more Ideas and comments on the ideas I plan to introduce.
Some of the things I plan to do are:
Instead of clubs and societies being allowed to start by simply getting 20+ people to sign a page I will change this so clubs and societies that want to set up need to fill out a few forms detailing what they plan to do, when they plan to do it and how much it will cost. This means that right off the bat the club/society is organised and knows exactly what it needs to do. Once a club/society gets the go ahead it can then accept members.
There will be no non-member sign up sheet (for people who do not pay member fees) like in previous years there will instead just be a members sheet. Each member that pays the €5 fee will be a member of the club/society. The amount of members a club/society has dictates the amount of funding they receive.
I will be talking with the marketing department about getting either ITB hoodies or T-shirts for each club/society committee member with their club/society name printed on the back. The point is to promote the college, the club/society and to have a person everyone can see to ask questions about that club/society. The same hoodies or T-shirts will be available to members of the club/society but at a cost.
Tracking down down the heads of a society to join can sometimes be a pain so to solve this I will be forfeiting my breaks to sit in the SU office an take applications and tell people what clubs/societies are on offer.
I plan to fully utilise the students' union website to inform students of what our clubs and societies are about as well as to inform students what clubs/societies are doing what and when.
I will be travelling to the BICS training session who will train me to be better at this job. I will probably have a heap of ideas when I get back from that.
The really hard idea I want to introduce is an incentive to get more people to join clubs and societies. This might not work, hell it might never work but the trying is what counts, right? I want to see the dedicated people in clubs and societies get extra credit in there exams for being an active part in a club/society.
This could work a few ways at the very least lecturers could be lenient toward committee members of clubs/societies, they do a hard job and the result of that job has been proven to keep students in college.
It could work that student’s do some sort of project that can be presented to the heads of their course, the course heads could then grade and give extra credit. For instance a member of the computer society could create a LDAP server and show it working to their networking lecturer who could then give a few percent extra to them in CA

OK this went on a little long, sorry

Sounds like some kind of web application would be ideal here.

Or would something like the groups in social.ie be of any use?
