I am planning to put in a Geothermal system but I have a hot press already built upstairs in my dormer house. Does geothermal mean there won't be a seperate tank in my hot press (to dry off clothes) OR can the heat pump be stored in the hotpress? Thanks for any replies.

the manifold for the heating system, the cylinder, and the heat pump all take up a significant amount of floor area.....

for geothermal i usually try to allow at least 2.0 x 2.0 minimum....

there will not be much of a 'press' left after these are incorporated...

    Hey LMR,

We are locating are heatpump in out garage about 2m from the house and putting a 300litre cylinder in our "hot-press". Unfortunately with the geo-thermal setup you lose on the storage aspect of the "hot-press" because the not-so-cylindrical cylinder is so bulky.

In most cases the hot water cylinder is enclosed in a larger unit which you won't be hanging close off.

That link might give you an idea as to what a combined heatpump and cylinder looks like!

If all the equipment for your heat pump is and I imagine it probably will be located somewhere other than your hot press you could install a low temperature radiator to give you the heat you need to dry clothes.

Also if you're installing a HRV it would be a good idea to have an extract point in your hot press to remove the excess moisture and recapture the heat.

You can put a cylinder in the hot press upstairs and the heat pump in a utility room or garage or outdoors. I have a hotpress with a cylinder and the heat pump in the garage. The heat pump diverts to this cylinder when it needs to heat water. I got the cylinder with all the necessary bit with the heat pump. Mine is a Geostar unit and my plumber told me it was made in Ireland.
