    Hi all,

Looking to head off for a couple of nights somewhere nice. Thinking something like Kilkenny or Wicklow - preferably no further than 2 hours from Dublin.
No specific activities necessary but decent pubs nearby would be a big plus (we're a couple, mid twenties) and good food. Budget is reasonable, three or four star, would pay more for good quality room and dinner. A good all-in deal from a nice hotel with bed, breakfast and dinner would be great.

    Anyone any suggestions?

the ormonde hotel in kilkenny looks gorge! havent stayed there though i was just looking on their website last night :)
If you go midweek you will get waaay better deals can tell you that from working on a reception desk in a four star hotel in co. wexford and with it being quieter during the week usually get more attention from the staff as well...

I have to recommend Bunratty Castle Hotel in Clare. Might be adding a bit on to your travelling time. Lovely hotel, lovely area. Two of the best pubs in the country there, dirty nellys and the creamery. Eat in hotel one night and then the creamery restaurant the next. The pubs both have good separate restaurants and you don't need taxis because they are all within 30 seconds walk of each other. Then during the day go dolphin watching on the shannon estuary or wander around the folk park. We're a similiar age profile to yourselves. Something to pass the time during the day, good grub at night, and a few hassle free pints before heading back to a lovely hotel room, oh happy days! Oh ye.... Take in a trip to cliffs of moher and ailwee caves! About an hours drive from bunratty.

I agree with all that, you also have the castle and folkpark which are among the most popular tourist attraction in the country. The hotel also has a top class Spa.
