anti-social driving rants

perhaps i'm getting old or need a holiday, or both! but bear with me for a moment while i punch the keys in exasperation at the two examples of idiocy and lack of regard for others that i spotted to last night.

I'm a driving Instructor and pride myself on my patience but last evening either side of a lesson I nearly lost my cool. On my way to Fairview in dublin i was driving on the malahide road near the clare hall shopping centre, at that point the road is a dual carraigeway so i was sat happily in the left lane when a E46 BMW 328 (1998) tears past me, must have been doing 100kph at least with 4 young guys (below 25) in it and cuts up numerous cars on the way to the darndale roundabout. Most notably the front passenger tyre was a space-saver mini spare tyre - i assume hand tightened and surely not designed to cope with the stresses that this guy was putting on it. I caught up with him in the flow of traffic at lights and looked to see what the driver was like when the front passenger shouts "WHA' YOU LOOKIN AH' ??!" at me, i didnt have time for reply as the driver sped off around the roundabout with his three passengers grinning like the idiots they are.

So anyhow I got to my lesson, and driving back home along the exact same stretch of dual carraigeway, travelling with the traffic at about 60kph when I spot a silver altezza coming up behind me, now i'm in the left lane there is room to overtake in the right and its 9.30 so if he wanted he could have travelled in the bus lane, but for some reason he decides to try and intimidate me by tailgaiting, so close that i couldnt see his headlights in my rearview. The guy was short and hardly able to see above the steering wheel, he looked about 16. Perhaps it was a mistake i thought, as after a minute of this he backed off to a reasonable distance, but then he resumed his habit of getting right up my tailpipe for the rest of my trip home. Again, the right lane was free as was the bus lane, I appreciate that young males are impatient but he had options to overtake if he wasnt happy. I think he just wanted to bully.

Anyhow this isnt a rant against modified motors or young male drivers (i've a tinkered with corrado g60 myself and passed my test at 17), i just needed to vent about those two muppets i saw last night.

and ask does anyone know a place that sells car mounted machine guns? :D

I live in Baldoyle and usually go home via the Coast Road instead of the Malahide Road to avoid the very donkeys you're talking about. That stretch seems to attract a lot of that sort of thing.

I would question your own driving attitude if you are getting this wound up about other road users.

Ps. Like all these rant threads no one cares.

Drive a D reg mondeo, no alloys, no hubcaps, dent on boot lid and dent on rear doors, also wear a blue shirt.

    Suddenly..all your problems disappear ;)

You could have a police siren fitted, no flashing lights though. The siren would be enough to get them to behave. :D

    Don't they?;)

Edit: OK, i'm lost! There was an E46 328i in 1998, or am I missing something? :-)

E36 328i and E46 328i's both exist, but was the E46 out in 1998 is the question! The Coupe certainly wasn't, but I'm not sure if the saloon was. Just about if so. I would have thought early to mid 99.

Meself, I'm a very frustratable person....

I have orders placed for the following:
    An ex-Irish Ferries foghorn
A loudspeaker with mic on steering wheel.
    Some sort of anti-civic missile.

I'm almost 100% that it was - BMW tend to launch the saloon first in the 3 series.

Sorry Ronoc, this is different to other people's activities that don't affect others. I don't like some forms of music, other people's politics, attitudes to one armed dog walkers but I totally respect some people's right to enjoy these things.
Motoring is one thing that impacts on all of us and I would cut the legs off these gobsheen motorists if I thought it it would do any good. They would just go out and skanger a hand controlled car to do the same. One blink and these fools can (and do) kill others.

This week iv witnessed two dickheads on the roads. A muppet in a Glanza (surprise, surprise) undertaking a car by driving into the motorway sliplane and back out on to the motorway again just missing the crash barrier that splits the lane from the motorway by inches. Yesterday evening stuck behind a drunk driver on a back road who insisted on taking every blind bend in the middle of the road, a few close calls with incoming cars. Was cringing driving behind him and staying well back aswell.

Maybe take a second to consider, that the OP has a valid reason for getting wound up, whereas you're just getting wound up and making a judgement about his post...

Out of these two things to be annoyed about, who do you think has more justification for their anger?

Pretty self-righteous of you aswell, to assume on everyones behalf, that no one else cares.

The saloon was made between 04/1997 and 06/2000 whilst the coupé was manufactured between 03/1998 and 06/2000.
Use http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do if ever in doubt!

Twice in the last 2 weeks I've had the car in front accelerate when I went to overtake.

Wouldn't you just love to have a set of blue lights to flick on when that happens? Wipe the grin off their face!

I'd love to be a gard for just such situations, and more, but alas i just let them go, tbh i couldn't care less if they have a grin or not. I know even if i were to say anything to them they'd just pay no attention and continue as they were, or even worse they'd just drive even worse because i said something...
