Hello everybody. UPC are calling around tomorrow to hook up my 20 meg connection so I guess I'll be able to play PS3 games properly online (In my old house I had 1 meg eircom which didn't cut the mustard). I've been wondering about two things:

1: What are the best online games
2: What are the best online (or offline) party games

I want to know about the party games as my flatmate and girlfriend dont really like any games I have very much and I would like to get them involved. My favourite game by a mile is Pro Evo 2009 but i've heard its not great online, is that true? The other games I have and love are Buzz! Quiz TV, Guitar Hero 3, Little Big Planet, Ratchet and Clank TOD, Burnout Paradise and Street Fighter 2. What else would people reccomend in the two categories above?

    thanks!

    Rock Band

The best online games IMO are:
    1. Metal Gear Online
    2. Fifa 09 (Btw Pro Evo is brutal online, unplayable I'd say)
    3. Call of Duty WAW or Cod 4
    For offline games I'd say
    1. Pro Evo 09
    2. Fallout 3
    3. UFC Undisputed (not out yet, but being released this month)
I know you asked for party games, but I don't have many games like that so I can't reccomend any

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Seems PS3 has a lack of party games.

Also, has anyone played Everybodys Golf? Is that any good?

Good old UPC just rang and cancelled the installation until some time next week the feckers

Not necessarily a lack, just not appealling to too many gamers. Like it has Singstar and other such tripe but I could not in good conscience recommend that to anyone!

As for Everybody's Golf, 'fraid not.

I suppose it is what it is, Doubt it would be my cup of tea but thanks for confirming that :-)

Does anyone remember Mario Party on the nintendo consoles? Something like 50 - 100 mini games. It was really good. PS3 should make something like that especially with the motion sensor controller. There is sega classics too but I wouldn't be interested in playing that with the crap graphics.

I think by 'fraid not he meant he hadn't played it? I saw it online for less than 30 quid so i might give it a whirl. Cheers lad.

you do know download capability isnt what gaming is all about its actually your ping and upload thats important, and UPC are by far the worst ppl to have for ps3, as most here will tell you, its all about p2p and they throttle it, so expect alot of connection problems :-)

Only 4 player max but little big planet can be good fun. Motorstorm 2 with 4 way split screens confusing but fun.

I saw Burnout Paradise has a offline multiplayer add-on. Has anyone tried it?

I have 20meg UPC broadband and have had no connection problems with it and I'm about 25 feet away from my router. The upload speed is generally very good averaging about 1.5 megs and the ping is normally around 35. Although when I had a 6meg broadband with them I had a lot of connection problems on COD4.

Wow, The guys at cirterion (I think thats it) really push the boat out on the add ons eh? they way it should be. When they come (Now Saturday) I'll certainly be trying that.

Thanks for that, I got a bit of a shock from the previous post. Another friend of mine has the 20 meg broadband package and also says online gaming is fine.

That is the Party Mode I think you are referring to. Its not fantastic tbh, you pass the controller around. However, I agree about Criterion. They are brilliant for updates.

Oh I thought they may have added split screen. Not so great I guess but thinking about it, it would have been a really big ask. I heard they will be releasing a new island soon too.

Why not two-player / multiplayer split screen FFS??
