    absolute rubbish. imho

It has absolutely nothing to reccomend it. poor greens (last time I played it) I'll actually be out that way later on today and will report back if the greens have improved.

It's not scenic and you couldn't say that any hole stands out as being a good golf hole. It also has a huge membership and can be quite difficult to get a tee time at weekends. The large membership has more to do with the fact that at one point they were the only club in cork accepting members that anything else.

the two closest clubs to it would be better if you are down that way. Castlemayter or waterrock.

A little harsh, Jason. It's not as fun as Water Rock, I grant you, or as classy as Castlemartyr, but East Cork is your average country course that does everything you could ask for, at €30.

There are four different sets of holes so there's lots of variety (hilly, wooded, water and flat) and while I agree with you that there are no outstanding holes, there are no awful holes either.

Aster99, I suggest you give it a lash, or head to Water Rock which is a lot of fun (and pay and play).

What about Kanturk and Macroom, any experience of them?

east cork is crap i have to agree, from what i remember it starts off with a nice par 3 then its up and down a bit of a hill for the next few hole (none v .good) ok par 3 then into the next field for a few short par 4,s and a v.short par 3 followed by a short par 5 downhill, across to th enext field where you have the best 3-4 holes across to the next field for 3-4 av holes back to field no 3 for ok mpar 5 and good par 3 to finish........hope that adds up to 18:confused:

wouldn't pay to play it again.......
    water rock slightly better....
    kanturk crappy too imo
macroom the best of the 4 but not the greatest front 9

OK. maybe a little harsh. I'll put it another way. Out of all the courses within 40 mins of cork city it would be the second last that I'd pay to play at (last being frankfield)

Kanturk I've only played once and was an enjoyable experience. Probably due to the fact I had 5 birdies and went round with an absolute gent who as local. not a spectular course I'll grant you but a few memorable holes. Particularly the drivable par 4 and the incredibly tight drive on the last. nice greens too though I did play it at the peak of summer.

Macroom is a bit of a gem. an underrated course imo. I've only played it 3 times the last being over a year ago but I could nearly go around it in my head. again tip top greens when I last played it.

I'd recommend Mahon as well. Well kept and the bit of water around keeps it interesting.

have to agree. I like mahon as a course too. I haven't played it yet this year but I played out in Blarney a couple of weeks ago with 2 mahon members who told me their greens were in shocking condition at the moment.

Wow, that's harsh. Greens were recently hollowtined coming up to the Captains Prize at the end of May. Was out the weekend and the greens are in great condition, possibly even too fast! I would disagree again when you say there are no stand out holes, personally I must say that the 6th, 8th, 11th and 18th, 16th...........are all great holes. Played in castlemartyr recently and felt bar the 18th that there was nothing special, especially for 60 spuds a round!!

In my opinion Waterock is nice but too open, and it seems to me that your always in a position to have a shot in. East Cork does punish those who aren't straight particurlarly when driving and can be a pain when stuck behind a 30ft evergreen!!

Don't like mahon (public course full of hackers) don't like the course set up and can't say I find it very picturesque with the south link running through a section of it!?!

    My 2 cents.....

I'm not a fan of East Cork either. For €30 it's okay but go down the road to Castlemartyr and your €40 goes much further.
