Anyone know how much I'd pay for a Trek 7.6 FX in a Dublin bike shop and which ones stock Trek bikes? They're about £800 in the UK.

Anyone have one to offer opinions?

The 7.5 used to go for €750-€800 or so. The 7.6 is being listed as costing €1150 at wheelworx.

The new models are different than the old ones - they've that new isozone thing, whilst the old ones had carbon fibre down seat stays and a 105 dérailleur as opposed to a tiagra on the 09. My local shop in enniskillen had an 08 model last summer upstairs. Not sure of the size. Quite possibly its still there as I would have expected to have seen it around town by now so you might get a bargain. P McNulty and Sons is the name. Grand to deal with but don't expect much in the way of fitting etc

There was also a shop in ranelagh (just beside the luas stop) that had the very similarly specced Klein Karma (i think it may have shared the frame with the 7.6) hanging up in the window, as did joe daly in dundrum. Not sure of the status of either, but seeing that trek dropped the Klein brand around 2007 you might be able to haggle.

Thanks neilled, much appreciated! The isolation block is the attraction but I'd have to try one first. €1150 might be over budget but I'm sure discounts might apply.

You won't get much budge out of a trek dealer unless the product is way old. Cycleogical are still have some treks that are 2 or three years old at more or less full price because people will pay that - trek have set up their dealer system so that there isn't discounting.

I'd say the carbon rear end on the old model would have much the same effect. Also - some of speccialzed cirrus models have similar inserts called "zertz" which may be worth trying out.

Can you get the bike on cycle to work scheme? I'd suggest a trip and buying up north. The cost of getting a train up for the day will leave you some €150 better off at minimum.

Speaking of shock absorbsion Giant have some curious commuters that have only been released in Taiwan and Japan so far -

the Asscend - there are some neat touches like integrated front and rear lights. Drive train appears to be 105, weight in around 11.7 kgs.

The much publicised city speed has went on sale in Japan for something like 180,000 yen - however when you backtrack those prices and look at what similar bikes cost the trek 7.6 for instance goes for 160,000 yen it'd probably go for around £800-850 mark

Planning to buy the bike on the cycle to work scheme alright, theSpecialized Sirrus Pro is also a contender, as is a Lapierre RCR 500. Haven't sat on any of them yet though! he Giant looks nice but I need one in the next few weeks and thats unlikely to be on sale here by then.

Didn't think you could buy up north on cycle to work scheme, if you know different then I'd be delighted to know how.

The current full RRP on a 09 Trek 7.6FX is E999.00. I'd guess that it should be possible to buy this bike for about E969.00 or with a package of added value thrown in. It's 799.00 sterling in the UK which makes it about E920.00. Allowing for the VAT difference menas the Euro price is not far off the UK price. Buying within the country means taking delivery of an assembled bike and having full back up through the dealer you buy it from. I sold two of these bikes early this year, a matching gents a ladies and they are very nice machines.
