Hi just wondering has anyone been to Oktoberfest? Myself and some firends are thinking of heading over this September. Just wanted to check how much a litre of beer is, the best tents to go to etc.

    Thanks!

    I'm a Fest Veteran, have been there 10+ times. Some questions first;
    What weekend are you going?
Are you a boy or a girl?
What do you want out of the weekend? Get drunk or see a bit of Munich and the Fest?
Litre is about €12 I think
    Where are you staying?

Check out the official website as it has maps and much more info.
Did you know that the Fest is also a huge fairground with roller coasters, etc?

I can answer most of your questions.

Go to all the tents, spread your time around over the few days you're there.

Get up early. Go to bed earlyish .. don't go out drinking until 5am (the tents close approx midnight) or you won't be up to enjoy the tents.

On weekends and some days the tents get very busy and they lock the doors to stop more people getting in and causing over crowding - if you're not there early you may have to hang around a while to get in.

If you haven't booked somewhere to stay yet then start booking now. Same with flights.

I can't remember exactly what the beer was last year ... worked out cheaper or roughly the same as 2 pints anyway!

It was 8.20 for a liter last year and won't be much more this year.

Agree with this however it's quite easy to bribe the outside serving staff to get you in, 10 euro a head would easily do it. October 3rd is a holiday in Germany so expect utter chaos around this time.

The weekends get very busy. If I was going again I think I would go midweek.

Cost 8 Euro in the Haufbrou tent which is generally the most popular tent (and the biggest I think?). That said, you usually pay a tenner (2 euro tip). The last weekend is generally a complete messy madness.

One of the days when the doors were closed, we got inside solely on the grouds that we were irish (and would obviously be drinking our fair share). You shouldn't have to pay in, but as someone said, bribes are a' plenty.

Also, don't dress up as a leprachaun, it's just looks pants.
