Philips, Creative, iRiver, Samsung, Sony.. they all do rugged, basic, FM included, small players. Some brands like the iRiver allow you to record from the radio.

Over-the-counter in Dublin, price-wise, I'd plump for a Creative. I've no idea who would sell the likes of the iRiver in a shop here.

Just as an example, would this suit you?

    Best recommendation yet.

I got one a few weeks ago, and it's great, light and has a good sound.

4gb Creative stone plus in xtravision for 29.99. So much easier to use rather than the sansa. Have 4 audio books 10 albums and still over 2.8 gb left and you can also load certain songs from itunes directly or just burn your libary to disc and then rip it to your stone plus.

I had the sansa for a week till it went tits up, burnt disc from my itunes libary seemed to kill it but got my money back so 20 euro up :D The sansa clip and media player seemed to be, well, hard work.

The radio on the stone can have preset stations and I have no problem listening to it while on the treadmill in the gym.

Having had the two, I'd vote for the creative zen stone plus.
