There are a bunch of new fixed (but temporary looking) cameras mounted
on 20ft poles pointed towards road in Galway. I've seen one on quincentennial bridge pointed west bound, Barna pointed eastbound, and Furbo pointed east bound. Does anyone know if these are speed cameras or what they are ?

    Presumably traffic monitoring cameras

I have not seen any but they are pretty difficult to spot. Lets hope they are not speed cameras.

A usual looking fixed speed camera on the bridge would be pretty easy to spot. Given that, having passed many times, I haven't even noticed the camera I doubt it is a speed camera.

Will watch out for it on the way home this evening, should be able to tell what it is.

That's what it sounds like to me.

I really hope that's what it is anyway. The speed limit there is stupidly low and I always find myself slightly over.....

Are there any lines painted on the road near the cameras similar to the ones in the link below? If not then it is most likely they are just traffic monitoring cameras.

Nope. no painted lines. The cameras are mounted on what looks like temporary poles which are then attached to existing poles. Wires running down to box on the ground. Cameras are cylinder like .. not unlike security cameras...

They are traffic count cameras don't worry about them.;)

Cool. Pity they didnt stick a sign up saying "Traffic Monitoring in Progress" or something akin to this ...

... folks who had seen them were slowing.. others not
so you had this crazy situation with traffic suddenly altering speed
on a stretch of road you would not expect to be a 30km zone ...

Got a (bad) snap of it on my phone when passing this evening. You can ignore the left two-thirds of the photo; the traffic camera is in the right third. It's definitely not a speed camera I reckon. Probably just traffic counting camera.

Will be interesting to see how many cars use the bridge everyday. I'm sure it will be a much bigger figure than a lot of towns around the country which have got a bypass....

From walking the dog out that direction yesterday evening:

Sorry for the poor quality; it was dusk so lighting was poor and I only had my phone, rather than a proper camera.
