sorry if i'm dragging everyone through the pangs of nostalgia, but i'm using a gameboy emulator with a full rom set (legally procured:pac:) on my n95 and i was wondering what the best games were? I've been playing the marios obviously and also bubble ghost, one of my favourite games of all time, and also zelda. What else is good and caused you to get blistered thumbs and a pain in your head back in the day? Thanks for your advice!

Batman (I was playing this over the weekend!)
    Mole Mania
    Balloon Kid
Tetris (one of the best versions)

My recommendations (Mario games aside) would be:

The 3 Legend Of Zelda games (DX version of Links Awakening if the emulator does GameBoy Colour emulation)
Batman (Surprisingly good for such an early movie tie-in)
Pokemon Blue/Red and Pokemon Gold/Silver (Gold/Silver is a much better game)

I'd like to add Kirbys Dreamland, Megaman 1-6 (particularly 5), Contra, kirbys pinball, Alien 3, Donkey Kong 94'

Can't think of much more and the gameboy is a weak console for me in terms of my knowledge of the games on it, which I really want to improve upon.

    Metal Gear Solid

    Wario Land 2 + 3

    Star Wars.

Bill & Ted's Excellent Game Boy Adventure is a cool single-screen arcade platformer jobbie that's well worth checking out.

Stranded Kids is a cool desert island survival adventure. It's a precursor to the Lost in Blue DS games, and in many ways it's actually a lot better.

Both Mario Golf and Pokemon Pinball are excellent and better than their GBA sequels. They're GBC only.

    Other stuff:
    Donkey Kong Land 3 (platform)
    Revenge of the Gator (pinball)
    Bionic Command Elite Forces (platform/shooter)
    Harvest Moon 2 (life sim)
    Micro Machines (Micro Machines)
Bubble Ghost (sort of blowing a bubble around a maze thing)
    Parasol Stars (Bubble Bobble sequel)
    Rodland (arcade platformer)
    Boxxle (Infuriating puzzle)
Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle (weird platformer)
Garfield (a bit like Mr Driller)
Wario Land 3 (by far the best of the Wario Lands)
    Super Mario Land (platform, obv.)
    Mario's Picross (puzzle)

And Donkey Kong, as Retr0 said. It's completely original and nothing like the arcade game and it's really, really good.

There is a kirby game on the ds US side that is really good. It's not the magic paintbrush one but old school kirby

Retr0, ban yourself for having two accounts. ;)

(PS, the old school Kirby DS game is called Kirby Mouse Attack in Europe.)

You can't go wrong with Pokemon!

    (Blue was the best)

Ah, no, there are two old school Kirby games on the DS. Mouse Attack is more straightforward and doesn't have any of the variations or minigames that Super Star has.

So far i've been playing mario 2, I never even considered getting it back in the day after i finished mario 1 for some reason. Also been playing Kirby's dream land and micro machines. I can't really get involved in Zelda at the moment, but i will soon. I've never beat that version actually, i used to be stuck at some part when i'm going up the mountain at the end. I don't think my romset is full though, some of the recommendations here are absent, can't find all the zeldas, just the original link. Also the n95 isnt ideal for playing it one, although the platform games work well. What i find funny is that most of the gameboy games i play are a fraction of the size of the 'official' phone games, even the N-gage ones, yet most of them are waaaay waaay more fun than the n-gage or java games. You can see why the gameboy was the biggest selling console of all time, it really is all about the playability. It's impressive even now how they get such good games out of a screen with no colour and two buttons.

Oracle of ages and seasons are gameboy colour only so you might have a romset of just original GB games.

Tetris again, that thing is welded into my GB Pocket.
Also Super Mario Land and the sequel are fab.
    Road Rash was awful though!

Metroid II: Return of Samus is brilliant fun as an explorer/platform type thing.
Avenging Spirit is a fun little platform-type thing.
Choplifter II helped me pass many a boring bus trip.
Revenge of the Gator is second only to Tetris as fun puzzle-type games for long trips.
Probotector/Contra is great for when other games seem too easy.
Samurai Shodown was probably my favourite fighting game on the original GB.

Samurai Shodown...wow. I'd forgotten about that. Time to dust off the GB. I hope it still stands up! Hazy memories here.

I should probably have mentioned that barring Tetris, Revenge of the Gator and Metroid I haven't played any of them in years so they may actually turn out to be crap. That being said, I dimly recall Samurai Shodown being great - there's a cheat involving something like bashing select three times at the right time on the title screen to unlock extra characters, but I could hardly ever get it working.
