    Hey,

Does anyone know how much on avarage does it cost to rent out an apartment or house in Dubrovnik OR croatia in general. Is the cost of living alot cheaper than Ireland? For food and drink etc..

    Thanks

In the old town eating out is similar enough to dublin.

Outside of old town is a good bit cheaper.

Try http://www.atlas-croatia.com for renting holiday apartments.
Don't expect anything to fancy though around the old town, apratments are pretty basic.

Shop around for the restaurants, there is great value there but you have to look. As above on the apartments. Would advise getting one with Air conditioning if you want to get any sleep though!

Strongly advise taking a trip to Mostar if you can. Really mind blowing place with the scars of the war still very much evident. If you can get to Sarajevo too its an amazing drive/train journey

Myself, family and friends have all done DIY holidays for Dubrovnik and

i went to dubrovnik last may and visited a few islands and found it very cheap. as we were going off peak ,we didnt book any accomodation. overall it is very cheap compared to ireland but the more touristy sites(inside the walls of the old town of dubrovnik) is dearer than outside or the islands.
they have a system of accomodation much like greece where people rent rooms attacted to their house or properties they own on self catering basis and their seems to be no shortage whatsoever. we got our accomodation in dubrovnik by asking the guy who collected the money on the airport shuttle bus,his sister owed a guesthouse so he rang he and she came to meet us off the bus.60euro a night for a couple. we discovered later that this was expensive and when we moved around we stayed in accomodation ranging from 30euro to 15euro (for 2 people). the cheapest was in hvar. the lady did say however that this goes up in the peak of july/august but even if it doubled it would still be so cheap.most of the studio accomodation has little signs outside it that you will come to recognise with a symbol of a bed and you just knock at the door otherwise outside hvar people were sat at the roadside at the enterance to the town with signs for rooms to rent.
eating out overall was average 12euro main course but you could pay more or less. bottle of house wine for 8-10euro.(my only complaint of the holiday was how crap the wine was). the local beer was really good and was about 2euro a bottle but if you go to the irish pubs in the old town of dubrovnik its the same as here. overall it can be done very very cheaply.
