Two weeks ago I went up a couple of Kgs in deadlifting and notice a stiffness after the session in my lower back, especially to the left in and above my hip bone.

I'm fairly sure my form was ok, and I'd someone spotting me. Obviously something went wrong though, which has me where I am.

Where do people go with this? I haven't lifted since and am in fair amounts of pain when bending down in general.

I'm afraid to go to a chiropractor incase its not bone related (and because of some horror stories heard from people following a visit to the chiropractor), and there's no point going to the GP because I'm certain he'll perscribe pain killers and rest.

    Any advice?

Go to your GP at least! You can't take any chances with your back, after all, you only have the one, and if you break it, it's gone!!

Isolated to one side, and just above the hip bone screams SI (sacroiliac) joint to me. Go get a physio to check it out. A sports physio like. Something caused it to pop, so find the cause, treat it and recover.

It's probably the most common injury I've seen that's deadlifting related in people I train with and around. It's almost a right of passage tbh.

Have a read up on it, but in my experience it's not really that serious and should be easy enough to sort out. Best of luck with it!

    What Hanley said.

It's exactly the same sounding injury I picked up. It doesn't sound disc-related. You're probably using your lower back to compensate for another muscle. That's what mine was.

Any suggestions of a decent sports physio to visit?

Doesn't matter where as I'm all over the country with work.

    Thanks for the help guys.

Sportsmed Ireland on Kildare St are great. That's where I went. €60 for the visit.

I have heard good reports about Sports surgery clinic in Santry http://www.sportssurgeryclinic.com/, might be worth a try. Think its €55 for a session. I don't have the name of a specific physio though.

I would be wary about seeing a chiropractor with it before you see your doctor or physio.

Hi, wow, I had the same problem which lasted a couple of months. tried an osteopath, physiotherapist and doctor. None worked.. was recommended by a family friend to a guy off fitzwilliam square, dylan Crowe in the Posture Centre, he called himself a sports therapist, he worked wonders. I was back horse riding in no time.
sorry dont have his number handy. he said he mostly works with chronic pain from bad posture. Very hands on.
good luck. I feel your pain
    Sally:)
