Hey everyone. Im just after purchasing a car and im keen to drive it but i have to wait to get the taxbook back to pay for my tax to legally drive it.

I was just wondering is there a way of paying for the tax on the car without my name been on the tax book?

In my experience, when you hand in that form to the person behind the counter in the tax office all they actually input into the computer is the name and adress given on the form you have just filled in to tax said car. So as long as youve the previous owners name and address...

Ive done this several times no problem. Im extremely impatient.

Yes im very impatient too. Ill see if i can do this.

The last car i bought i was so impatient i drove around with no tax and of course what happens? i get pulled over by johnny law and i got slapped with a 80 euro fine for no tax and i tried to explain i was waiting for the tax book to pay the tax and i need my car to get to work and he was having none of it.

I know you say you hae purchased it, but have you taken possesion of it? If the previous owner is nice, they might tax it for you (ie. you give them the money for the tax, and they go to the tax office with the relevant forms and tax it before they sell it to you).

If not, keep checking the registration on the motortax and once you see the ownership has changed, that means it's in your name and you should be able to tax it then.
