It's the brewery and it goes off at one o' clock at lunch time as well.

Yeah it used to be a siren for the workers... they got rid of it for a couple of years and there was a protest to get it back.

Just love it, its like an air raid siren!

It's not the Brewery: it's at what is now Carraher & Ward on the Ardee Road. It was originally an Air Raid Siren and was used for many years by the GNR. It blew at ten to Eight and Eight O'Clock. Then at One O'Clock, Two O'Clock, and Five. After the GNR closed in 1958 it was used by CRV, DEW and S&S. It fell into disrepair in the late Eighties but has been refurbished in recent years.

    Who mentioned old?

The brewery in question is the former McArdle Moore Brewery off the Ardee Rd at Cambrickville. There were older brewerys in town going back centuries but that's for another day!

I think the Macardle Moore brewery is called the old brewery in the sense that there's a newer one in town now ....

Kinda like how some people call the Dundalk shopping centre the old shopping centre methinks :D
