listen my friend just told me you can leave school after the juior cert and yoiyu parents cant do nothing about ti!! IS THIS TRUE!!!!!???? OMG If it it's true , im definitely gonna leave and go straigt to college! please tell me it true!!

It depends on your age, but I don't know of any college that will take you without a Leaving Certificate, or at least Leaving Certificate standard, so realistically, unless you want a future of always missing out on jobs and courses to people who DID stay and do the Leaving, it would be a pretty silly thing to do.

You can leave school after the junior cert, but to get into college you need to have the Leaving cert completed and have enough points for your course, and have certain grades in subjects depending on your course.

You can not leave after the Junior cert and get into any college, anywhere.

It's a recession. If you leave after JC you simply will NOT get a job, let alone one that pays anything decent. Anyone leaving school at 15 nowadays needs a brain transplant short of exceptional personal circumstances.

and if its a recession there are going to be lots more jobs for a carpenter so why waste for years in the leaving cert and maybe ten years in a college when i can get a really easy job for free>

Apprentice carpenters have to go to college. They either go one day a week from their job or on block release.

There are of course carpenter's helpers who just carry round supplies and the real carpenter's tools from job to job. You could probably get a job doing that, but I guarantee once you hit 18 and have to be paid an adult wage, you will be replaced by someone else who thought they knew better than everyone else and left school after their Junior.

Only a muppet would leave school after Junior Cert-particularly in current climate. If you think there is a carpenter out there who will hire you at 15-give you an apprenticeship then you are just not thinking. Do you read newspapers? Watch the news??? Wake up!!!

Actually folks, we are all wrong. We are assuming everyone needs to finish their leaving cert, go to college and basically settle into middle class lives.

But, I ask you....

Do we need people to fill petrol tanks, work as counter assistants, work in fast food restaurants, sweep the streets, be traffic gardai*, be bouncers, be farm labourers etc. We need the likes of Halla Basin.
