Charger to Toshiba Satellite

    Hi Folks,

My charger for the Toshiba p205d (which I bought in the states) is bust. I need a new one. However, the charger I have is an American one and I need an Irish plug equivalent this time. It's a 17 inch screen and supposedly some of the Toshiba ones aren't powerful enough. Just wondering if someone could tell me an Irish plug model number and recommend somewhere to purchase. Genuine Toshiba only please, in Dublin or online.

    Thanks!

Most universal power suppies have adjustable voltage so you can give it just the right amount of juice. Get one of these that has the proper connections for a toshiba and you should be ok.

It's definitely the charger as it works if you put it in at a certain angle, or at least it did until it started to not work totally. Also, laptop doesn't run on AC power at all, so I don't think it's the battery, thanks anyway though!

Yeah, just had a look at their website, seems to have what I want so will give them a ring Monday.

That could mean it's a fault with the connection on the laptop and not with the charger. If that is the case your looking at a fairly expensive repair bill. Do you know anyone with a toshiba laptop that you could check to see if the charger is actually faulty? If not bring it into a computer store and ask them can they check it with one of theirs. For your sake, I hope it is the charger.

Yes, the thought crossed my mind. Boyf works in a computer store, they don't have any 17 inch Toshibas though. Would any Toshiba charger work to check this? I could probably bring it in to hook up to a demo one if so.

I am thinking it's the charger as I always have the wire bent backward since the plug in my room is on the other side from the charger port.

Check the underside of the charger for your laptop. look for the voltage and amps (ie. 19v 3.5a or the likes) and then compare to any chargers your boyfriend may have access to , along obviously with the pin connector. You may be lucky and be able to try one before having to buy one to confirm if problem is charger or laptop DC jack related. As Almighty already said, I hope its the charger....

Some would, some wouldn't. I'd definitely try it out though.

YOU need a charger with the same voltage in,same ampage in, eg 500ma, same poarity,ie is the negative poarity on the inside ,or the outside. +, - .THEY dont make a unique charger 4 each laptop model.
the charger should have a serial no or ,type no.eg charger 530sy,so hold ON TO the old charger.
ON THE LAPTOP ,Label, theres prby dv 15v ,5amp.my toshiba has symbol very small, bout 2mm fontsize at the power in round socket, plus on the inside ,minus on the outside.
so write down polarity ,ampage,eg o.5amp, voltage in ,eg 15volt.
so any toshiba charger or UNIVERSAl charger ,that matches these 3 things will work,
be careful, if you use the wrong charger you can damage the motherboard .check polarity be4 you use any charger.is + on the inside or the outside of the circle icon at the power input.

Hi folks, just to update. I called Toshiba on Monday who referred me to Bss Ltd (http://www.bss-ltd.com/). They ordered the charger in and the boyf picked it up today. It's a genuine Toshiba and only cost e35. The laptop is working again so luckily it wasn't the port.

    Thanks all for your help.
