I've heard that to go to America you need to hold a valid passport for at least 6 months, can anyone confirm this?

No, it needs to be valid for the duration of your trip.

    See here for other requirements:

A lot of countries, including America, require you to have 6 months left on the passport. Although I got in no problem with only about 6 weeks left on mine but I had been there numerous times with work before so maybe they took that into account.

New passport? Fine. Just remember to fill in that new online thing linked to in this forum

Grover - for those travelling on the Visa Waiver scheme, it is not required to have 6 months validity, just the lenght of the trip :)
