Thursday and Friday evenings(order before 9.30pm)
buy 1 main course get another free! plus mon-fri 'vat free' pints/wine(pint works out at 4.30)

Myself and my girlfriend ate here on Thursday, we had 2 mains, a coke and a pint of Guinness, total bill was less that 20 euro (excluding tip)

The food was really good and portion size generous. Also a good choice on the menu. Great deal.

And we're supposed to look on this part as some sort of bargain and be grateful to them?

    Their breaking my heart.

    yes,

do you know somewhere else(restaurant wise) you can get 2 lovely filling main courses with a couple of pints for 20 quid??

    didn't think so...

You may know somewhere that has a slightly cheaper pint, but they are already giving a free main course when you buy 1 , they have to make money somewhere.

Also, the service there is nice and friendly, which I find is hard to come by these days...and in my opinion, is just as important as value for money.

Thats not my opinion of the place. Been there twice for lunch a while back, both times service was poor and portions were tiny for the price paid. Will never go back.

ate there as recently as last week. Spare yourself.

    wow im really surprised, seriously...

I had traditional style fish and chips with hand cut potatoes ..honestly delicious and the chips were massive...

I was served by two people, a guy and a girl, both foreign..the guy was grand(neither rude or really friendly), but the girl was all smiles and very polite...

told my mate about it as he was bringing some girl out for dinner..he went there and had a similar experience to mine..he said his missus had bass which she remarked how nice it was...

from my recent experience there i think its lovely and a bargain with the offer they have on that i mentioned..

Have they gone downhill? I went there years ago a few times with my wife and we loved it. They did a nice Tuna steak (not as good as mine though :D).

Was there last Summer with a group of about 16.
No one enjoyed their meal. Cheap, poor quality food.

I had the fish and chips too. The fish and batter were some how completely tasteless. The chips were potatoes quartered that hadn't been cooked properly all the way through, most likely due to their size.

This is the same crowd who have the audacity to charge something like €6.30 for bottled beer, seriously i wouldn't give a fcuk if some of these places went under considering the scandalous prices they charge.

This might count as a bargain alert, but lots of places do BOGOF offers.

There is no 'FREE' meal/course involved here. Effectively half price at best.

Full price for one, cheaper one free......

I ate there few weeks back they had this two for one lunch deal in, we tried it at 7.30 and they gave it to us.
Tried the same thing again following week and they wouldn't give us the special rate again.
    Nice food+decent prices too.

Well I would regard it as free. Myself and my girlfriend often eat there after work as we work nearby. We normally pay about 13 each plus drinks...last week we ordered 2 mains @ 13.95 each. When we got the bill, we were only charged for 1, as the other was FREE!

My point is that you didn't walk in and get a free meal.

You bought two meals and got presumably the same or the cheaper of the two for "free". If you have to buy something to get something else, it's not FREE. It might be a good deal but it's not free food.

As I have said in another post, I'm not having a go; just seeking clarification on what I feel is a misleading title.

2 for 1 or BOGOF does not mean you are getting anything for nothing. 'Free' means at no cost or indicates no purchase necessary.

Excuse me, but do you work for fianna fail? Only a politician would go to so much hassle to point out what is essence...a mistake. Build a bridge!

I get your point but in my case it was free as we went in with the intention of paying for two meals but we were only charged for one.We did not go in specifically for this offer,we went in with the intention of paying for two meals...

I know plenty of places where you can get two pints (didn't you say you had a coke and pint, not two pints? Why bring two pints into it?) and two dinners for less than 20 euro or the equivalent, both in Dublin, outside Dublin, and abroad.

'Lovely' and 'filling' are objective and I don't see the relevance here.

@ Keith C. Thanks for the unconstructive input and the personal insult. Maybe I didn't explain my point properly, but the OP has accepted the point I was making.

I was suggesting that the OP change the tile of the post to clarify that Dandelion are not giving food away.

    .

This is bargain alerts i.e good deals. OP got what he/she thought was a free meal & posted it here in case anyone else would like to try the offer. Anyone reading the thread can understand what the deal was without your post of explaining what "free" means.
How about posting some BA rather then nit picking thru threads.

Ate there twice, thought there was a mistake on the bill the first time!

20 quid for 2 main courses and 1 glass of wine on Stephens Green in a decent enough joint with good service is a bargain in my book, $2 novelty moustaches it aint, but a good bargain none the less.

    Go Team!

Ate there myself a few times i liked the food, even better if it's BOGOF.
yea 4.30 for a pint isn't mad cheap but it's better than 4.50/4.80 or even 5e a pint that a lot of places are still charging.
